As I have already mentioned today is the one year anniversary of my blog. I am not bragging, but I am just pleased and surprised that I have stuck with this thing for a whole year. I am not a writer and I don't have any aspirations of being one. I am a music fan and I used to like to write for my own enjoyment. I thought this blog would allow me analyze my views on music more and improve my writing at the same. I think that I accomplished both of these goals to some extent. Sometimes I feel like I am writing about real topics and other times it feels like a heavy metal version of Seinfeld. In that I am talking about nothing, but unfortunately my blog isn't as funny or as clever as Seinfeld. I would like to thank everyone who has visited, read and or commented on my blog. I realize that having a blog about such a limited topic narrows down the number of people who will want to read it, but I am writing about what I like and that's what matters to me.
I think several regular and semi-regular readers are on vacation this week, but still I will give you a one time opportunity. I have spouted my opinions here week after week and I have asked for your opinions on a number of occasions. So now you can ask me any question you like, go ahead ask.
Congrats on making it a year. To thine own self be true. I enjoy your blog and you grossly underestimate your writing skills. I have always found your reviews clear and concise and even when I disagree, I must concede your points. I do not have any questions but I will say that it seems that as of late you are putting more of your personal thoughts of music and life in general. I really enjoy these posts. Again, congrats on your blogs anniversary and I wish you the best in the coming year.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the one year. I agree with Fuzzbox, you write very well. I love music also, but I could never come up with the insite that you have. Throwing in personal things in the site helps me to relate to you more. For a while I didn't know you were married, or had kids. Since I also have a wife and a daughter, it makes me feel like I'm not the only freak that is forcing his child to listen to 80's rock music. Keep doing what you're doing.
ReplyDeleteHere's my question......who blogged first, you or your wife? (BTW, since I told my wife that your wife had a blog, she's been reading her's all the time).
I echo the Fuzz. I love the fact that you write what you want to--you're doing it for yourself, and your enthusiasm for your topic.
ReplyDeleteI cannot think of any questions I haven't already asked during my many months of frequent visits. But, to get things going ...
If you had to write about any topic other than music, what would it be?

Fuzz-Thanks. Sometimes I struggle with topics and they take longer than I wish.
ReplyDeleteMike-Thanks. My wife just started blogging a few months ago. I tried talking her into it before then though.
David-Thanks. If I wasn't writing about metal then it's a good chance I would write about tv shows from the 60's, 70's and 80's.
Happy anniversary.
ReplyDeleteMy question: Why kind of music do you like outside of metal/hard rock?
Phoenix-I will be answering this again with tomorrow's post which will be a timeline of the music that I have liked. However, I have liked punk rock almost long as I have metal, but that's 70's and 80's punk not the pop stuff that some people push as punk today. My favorite punk bands are GBH, the Exploited, Discharge, the Misfits and the Angry Samoans. I also like surf music both old and new, the Stones, the Who, the Cars, Tom Petty,ZZ top, Elvis, Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry.
ReplyDeletecongrats on reaching your 1 year mark, um, Mark. :)
ReplyDeleteEveryone says the key to good writing is writing about what you know. Obviously, you know music and when it's combined with such a love of the subject it comes across very well.
2 questions:
- If you had a band, what would it be called?
2 - Do you recall the first tape you played in your first car on it's maiden voyage? If so, which one was it?
Onmywatch-
ReplyDeleteThank you.
1-If I had a band then they would be called Bad Penny. I actually have played bass for a long time, but I am average at best.
2-The car was a piece of crap, but the first tape I played in it was Van Halen 2.
Mimi-Thanks
ReplyDeleteVicious Steve-Danzig. I loved the Misfits and Samhain, but his solo band is a big joke. He lost all the mystery and soul to his music when he formed Danzig. He has had some talented people in his band yet the music is still lifeless.
cool answers! then I must say for your celebration, "bottoms up!"
ReplyDelete:)
Happy Anniversary Mark. I love reading your stuff, mainly because you're so passionate about it. My question is, if there is any one rocker that you could meet, who would it be? And btw, I am in 100% agreement with you on Danzig.
ReplyDeleteBruce-Thanks. Lemmy would be the person I would want to meet.
ReplyDeleteNewsflash: You ARE a writer and a damn good one at that! Happy One Year! Dont stop now!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the one year (a little late...but congrats none the less).
ReplyDeleteAnd I echo Bar's comments: you ARE a writer. And the good ones write because they enjoy it, not because they are told to! :-)
