Here are some questions about your CD collection.
1)Do you have your CD collection organized alphabetically, by musical genre or some other method? Or are they not organized at all?
2)If it's alphabetically then what artist is at the beginning and which artist is at the end?
3)If you get a crack on the CD case then do you replace or do you just live with it?
4)Okay, you may have to get up for this one. Go to your CD collection, close your eyes and grab one. What is it?
Not organized at all, yes, I live with the cracks unless they get too bad and I picked out The Cult (high octane cult).
ReplyDelete:)
1) Strictly alphabetical, but individual artists' CDs are arranged chronologically. Also, I have all my KISS CDs first because that's 35 less CDs I need to move down every time I buy a new one.
ReplyDelete2) Alice In Chains and Rob Zombie (filed under Z)
3) I live with it, although I am very careful
4) I had to get up anyway to check who was first and last. I grabbed The Beatles' "Abbey Road."
Not organized at all;
ReplyDeleteUnless it's a really bad crack, I live with it;
Greatest Hits- SRV and Double Trouble
1. I used to organize my CD collection in alphabetical order but it is too much of a hassle to do that because everytime I get a new CD I have to re-order the whole collection.
ReplyDelete2. Well on my MP3 Player it starts with 30 Seconds to Mars and end at Zwan
3. Just live with it, there are some CD cases where I am missing the whole front cover
4. The Offspring - "Smash"
1)I used to have mine organized in alphabetical order. I kind of got away from that when I had kids as I have to just get the cds out of harm's way. I may put them in alphabetical order again soon.
ReplyDelete2)When they were in alphabetical order it began with Abattoir and ended with ZZtop.
3)Only if they have really bad cracks.
4)I picked Liege Lord's Freedom's Rise.
1. Like Strutter, mine are arranged alphabetically by artist; chronologically within artist. In theory, that is--in reality, stragglers abound.
ReplyDelete2. First is Abdullah, followed by Accept. Last is ZZ Top, preceded by Zebra.
3. Keep it, even if cracked. It adds character.
4. Random pic: Talas, Talas.

1. I used to have them in alphabetical order, by genre. Like David and Strutter, now they are just in alphabetical order and within each artist by release date. And then there are some that are laying on top of the rack currently that haven't ben put back yet.
ReplyDelete2. AC/DC & ZZ Top
3. I usually have extra jewel cases, so I'll switch it for a new one.
4. I'm not home so I'll do this telepathically;
*closes eyes*
Type-O-Negative - Bloody Kisses
Thanks to Metal Mark for the perfect topic. I am forwarding this to my wife so she will see that I am not crazy and that other people follow the same "rules".
ReplyDelete1. Alphabetically by Artist/Band, chronological within the artist.
CD singles & E.P.s are filed chronologically after the respective album (i.e. Jungle followed by Master & Slave both after Carnival Of Souls).
Reissues/remasters can be problematic. I have the original KISS CD releases in chronological order up to Greatest KISS. Then come the KISS remasters circa 1997 then Psycho Circus (1998).
The problem lies when you have all the current albums by the band on CD and you fill in the back catalogue with the reissues rather than the original press. I have all the early UFO albums on CD from the Japanese remasters set in 2000, I file them before High Stakes And Dangerous Men (1988) because that's the order of the albums, but technically the remasters were released in 2000. See the dilemma? Yes, I actually think about it that much!
2. I have 3 custom wood cases (Bostonwood.com) that hold 900, 750, & 750 respectively. Like Strutter, KISS occupies the top row of the first case, cementing them above all other bands. After KISS:
1st Avenue - Tears And Triumph
ZZ Top - Antenna
3. I live with cracks until my last vacation of the year (I get 4 weeks). I usually take it Halloween week and I spend a couple of nights in front of the cases replacing jewel cases. With around 2500 CDs, it takes a while to check every CD but I listen to a lot of albums that I forgot about.
I also spin each CD so it is right side up, so when you open it, you can read the CD properly. Sick, isn't it?
4. Saga - Worlds Apart
Steve-It sounded normal until you got to the spinning the cd so it's right side up. I have heard that one before, but who knows maybe you are not alone with that one.
ReplyDeleteI buy used cds from Record and Tape traders which is the best record store around here. My only gripe is on their used cd's they put a great big orange sticker sealing the thing shut. When you buy a used cd like this, the sticker does not come off in one piece an it leaves a horrible mess. I have a bottle of Goo gone just for cleaning off these stickers and the residue because I buy a number of used cds at this store. So maybe I am picky for doing that.
1. I used to have them organized by genre but I went back to alphabetical in the last year. The genre organization became too hard to maintain. I would forget what genre I put certain bands in with.
ReplyDelete2. 3 Inches of Blood (I put numbers first).
3. Usually I will live with it. I take good care of my CDs so I rarely have to do this. It's more likely that the case cracked when I buy it, usually from an online vendor.
4. Weedeater - 16 Tons: Vile, almost unlistenable sludge/doom. You have to be in a real bad mood to stomach this one, lol.
It is organized by genre. I am not a case nazi. Random CD - Running Wild - Masquerade
ReplyDeleteVolkher-Welcome back.
ReplyDeleteI used to for years. I categorized them alphabetically by genre. But it got to be a pain in the butt when I'd buy new ones and have to fit them in.
ReplyDeleteI always had Zeppelin at the end even though technically it should have been under "L" and at the begining I'd have to guess Aerosmith.
I live with the cracks unless they're really bad.
I am doing this in my head...Ok, I don't know why but I grabbed Ozzy "Diary of a Madman"
Alphabettically: AC/DC to ZZ Top. Reaching..... Sammy Hagar VOA.
ReplyDeleteLiving with cracked.
Absolutely alphabetized...you've seen how I did it at the townhouse, but you need to see the monster wall of doom in our current house, Mark! Dinner, man?
ReplyDeleteI'm over 2600 CDs now, so alphabetizing is a must. Although I did cheat and put the new Fantomas in front of the A's because my copy of Fantomas is a calendar on top of a CD.... but it starts with Aborted and ends with ZZ Top.
You know I love the closing the eyes and picking at random since I do my "Random Shelf Review" at my blog. For your post here, I came up with Tori Amos' Under the Pink. Perhaps it's time for me to do another Random Shelf Review.
Crap, I forgot to add that cracked cases will stay, but sometimes if they're cracked from the binding parts, I might replace them sometimes.
ReplyDeleteAnd I too put them in chronological release order aside from alphabetical. I'm quite anal about it.
1) strictly alphabetical, all 2000+ of them, with each artist's records also sorted by year. i have it all on a .xls too. i'm too much of a geek.
ReplyDelete2) 16 - 'drop out' and zyklon-b - 'blood must be shed'
3) if it's a bog standard one, replace, if it has special stickers or something, i live with it (painfully :)).
4) rage - 'end of all days'
oh, and rhodeislandrock - it is a bit sick to do the spin thing, but you've got a spinning soulmate here. makes me feel a bit better about it to know there are other weirdos out there. :D
ReplyDeleteJose.....
ReplyDeleteGood to see I'm not alone with the "spinning of the CD". My wife thinks I'm nuts but my rationale is that someone (meaning me) might want to open it up and check it out. If the CD is spun correctly, you can read it normally.
On my November vacation, I will remove each CD, check for cracks, spin it if necessary, and repeat....over and over. My wife will wait until I go back to work and she will pick my favorite albums and spin them crooked. It drives me nuts and she gets a big laugh.
Mark & Steve - I also spin the CD to be right side up.
ReplyDeleteconsider me your brother in spinning when I think of it...sometimes I'm in a rush and don't care, but when I think of it, I spin it too
ReplyDeleteHello metal Mark, I've seen you've reviewed the Rainbow Rising album, I agree with you it sounds really great, (that was modestly put). I have the record and i like it a lot. I was wondering if you've heard the remastered rainbow cd. The tempo is a little slow compared to the record. I just want to know if it's really like that or just me.
