The New Year

-I think that 2006 has overall been a pretty good year for hard rock and metal. With such big names as Metallica, Megadeth, Ozzy and Judas Priest set to release new albums in 2007 do you think next year will be better or worse than this year for metal?

-What 2007 release are you most looking forward to?

The new Rush. No word on the official release date, but they promise 2007, and I trust their word a hell of a lot more than Axl's.

  2. I'm with Bruce--2207 will be better than 2006 if Rush gets their album out. Ozzy will probably suck, and Megadeth has disappointed most people on their last few. Priest had a decent comeback last year, so I am interested in that follow-up.

Metallica is the big wild card. If it's not an improvement on the last one, it coudl give the year a bad taste.

    Rush
    Bruce Dickinson (maybe)
    Moonsorrow
    Slough Feg?
    Iron Savior

....and HOPEFULLY Subterranean Masquerade will finalize the X trilogy with a new album.

  4. The Rush album is the big one I am looking forward to. Finally the new Trouble album will be out. Also the new Fu Manchu and hopefully a new Electric Wizard. Of the four bands I mentioned in my post, I am not sure if any of those will be any good. I would put the most faith in Judas Priest even though I wasn't big on the last album.

IIRC, isn't the new Priest going to be a concept album? I seem to remember seeing an interview with Halford about it.

I don't even know at this point. I think that I am disgusted with both Metallica and Megadeth.

I will buy the new Rush no matter what. Slough Feg have a new one coming out. I will probably buy the new Candlemass even though Messiah is being a baby and not singing on it.

So much great stuff came out this year that next year seems kind of lean at the moment.

Most of all, the new Symphony X that's been delayed several times.
Trouble - I really like them since I discovered them last year.
I hope Metallica record an album heavy and raw like St. Anger, only with some shorter songs.

  8. I don't know what I'm looking forward to per se, because I'm still catching up on promo from this year. I'm curious to see where Rush goes for sure, and I'm hoping the new Trouble gets out soon...I got word from the label the master isn't even finished yet because I'm setting up an interview with them, but anyway....

I think 2007 is going to be 1986 and 1987 of the original metal cycle; this year it has really broken out in the underground for the kids and then there's just tons of metal nostalgia for us old farts.

I expect the music is going to double even more (which is just going to smother me) and everyone is going to cash in as quickly as they can. The product will be phenomenal as it was this year...I couldn't believe how many reissues there were this year...I got almost all of Helloween's back catalog sent to me in promo....it's just astounding. I think that's one of the deciding factors for me to keep at it, one, that I love it, two, I love talking with the bands, and three, my back catalog is getting replaced after being missing for years!
