Heavy Metal Jukebox
It's the first full week of the month which means it's time for the Heavy Metal Jukebox. I list three songs and you pick which one you prefer. Today it's a journey back to the year 1983 so here are your choices.Dio-Rainbow in the dark
Motley Crue-Looks that kill
Ozzy-Bark at the moon**So which song do you choose?
Gotta go with 'Rainbow In The Dark'. Dio had just come out of Sabbath with tremendous momentum and released a smoking debut in HOLY DIVER. I still consider the song one of my all-time favorites.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the Crue and Ozzy songs: I was into the Crue and 'Looks That Kill' was good but I thought there were better tunes on that album. 'Bark At The Moon' is a great Ozzy tune but I think it suffers from the rest of the album being a cut below.
I Pick Motley Crue "Looks That Kill"
ReplyDeletealthough Ozzy's is a close second.
Was never a huge Dio fan.
Man, you've picked three songs that I like pretty much equally. RitD is classic Dio. Like Aunt Jackie, I was never a huge fan of (solo) Dio, but this song has its merits; the primary one being keyboards that don't suck. "Looks That Kill" is razor-sharp pop metal before pop metal started to suck, and really grabbed me when I'd hear it on the radio. Full marks there. BatM is strong as well, with Jake E Lee replacing Rhoads in fine style. Still, it's not the best Ozzy ever...
ReplyDeleteSo...
1. Looks That Kill
2. Rainbow in the Dark
3. Bark at the Moon
1) Bark At The Moon - great opening riff
ReplyDelete2) Looks That Kills - good pop metal
3) Rainbow In The Dark - great song but the keyboard makes it sound very dated.
Rainbow in the Dark of course - it's an awesome song with a funky melody. Ozzy' song is nice too but doesn't get to the greatness of Rainbow.
ReplyDeleteI'm with The Mule--these are hard to separate. Bark is fine, but was a bit less compelling than Ozzy's earlier singles.
ReplyDeleteRainobw is pretty good, but I dislike the keyboard mixing. And Looks is great, but like RIR, there are others I like better.
I'll take one minute of each.

I like all three, but if forced to choose then I go with Rainbow in the dark. I never tire of hearing Dio's vocals.
ReplyDeleteI'll go against the crowd. I like Bark At The Moon best. While it's not my favourite song of his, I still like it better than the other two. I've never been a Dio fan, nor a big fan of "Looks That Kill."
ReplyDeleteTough one Mark!!! I saw all three of those bands back on those respective tours...
ReplyDeleteI was a HUGE Cruester back with Shout, but I thought Looks That Kill got overplayed, when Shout an Knock 'Em Dead Kid were better songs, and as much as I was into Holy Diver then, I think I'll go with Bark At The Moon. Being a GIANT Randy Rhoads fan, I was really unsure when Bark At The Moon came out, but Jake proved he could deliver.
So:
1. Bark At The Moon
2. Rainbow In The Dark
3. Looks That Kill
Great picks!!!
Dio...
ReplyDeleteI'll go with Looks That Kill. For some reason I've been in the mood to listen to Motley Crue lately.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jackie. Looks that Kill, followed by Bark at the Moon.
ReplyDeleteI respect Dio, but his music never really did it for me.
I like all of them as well, but if I had to choose only one I'd go with Rainbow in the Dark.
ReplyDeleteLooks That kill -
ReplyDeleteThere really isn't any other choice. Plus, the video for that song is basically awesome.
Cheers-

Dio has been at the top of my playlist lately so I would have to go with Rainbow in the dark.
ReplyDeleteHands down I have to say "Looks That Kill". Not the Crue's best song ever, but damn fine jsut the same...but it is from their best album ever.
ReplyDeleteDio and OZZY are great in their own right, but Motley rulez! LOL!
That is a really hard one!!
ReplyDeleteAll 3 of them are kick ass songs!!
But, I am going to have to go with Dio "Rainbow In The Dark"!!
Good Grief. 3 Huge Metal tunes like that, it is hard to decide.
ReplyDeleteI am probably a bigger crue fan than Dio and Ozzy, so I guess I have to go with Looks That Kill.
That is a toughy for me though. I love Dio and Ozzy too.
Wow, good one.
ReplyDeleteI like all three probably equally so then I have to rate them in terms of the albums they appeared on. Going with this pretzel logic I will rank it:
1. Looks that Kill (Shout at the Devil)
2. Rainbow in the Dark (Holy Diver)
3. Bark at the Moon (Bark at the Moon). 3rd place but the opening Jake E. Lee riff is smokin'!
I'm with Roc of Ages. The opening riff of Bark at the Moon makes it a winner for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm 2 days late, but definitely Dio. I was lovin' his appearance in Tenacious D...the whole movie was awesome and had me falling off the couch laughing.
