Over/under

It's been rough the last two days and I just get myself in the mood to write a review of Megadeth's Killing is my business. It just might take me a few days to get back into a writing mood. So I am going to throw out an Over/under for today. It's simple I list two bands and you say what you think are the most overrated and underrated songs by that band. I decided to choose two LA bands so this time it's:

Motley Crue
and
Ratt

**So what do you think are the most overrated and underrated tracks by each band?

    The over/unders are always fun.

    Okay...first the Crue:

Overrated - Smokin' in the Boys Room...it's not even their best cover (Helter Skelter is better)

Underrated - Bastard...consider that bastard dead!

    RATT:

This is a tough one, I haven't listened to their stuff in years.

Overrated - Dance. Was that the song from the Eddie Murphy movie The Golden Child?

Underrated - I remember really liking "Lack of Communication."

  2. Anything Motley Crue did after Shout at the Devil is probably pretty overrated. Even though Dr Feelgood is a decent album, I don't think it lives up to its own hype. On the other hand, the first two albums get plenty of praise for the fine albums they are. Both are pretty solid all the way through.

Ratt, on the other hand, is difficult to underrate, because they seldom very good. Granted, the singles were decent pop songs, but most of the album tracks as I remember them are filler. That stuff can't really be underrated unless it's considered dismal and I can' think of any Ratt tracks being considered dismal either. To be fair, I haven't listened to much Ratt in the last 20 years with the exception of the occaisional spin of Out of the Cellar.

  4. Bob-Gosh, I think you underrated Ratt as a whole. I think it was easy to underrate them because they were very consistant (83-90) and only had like two singles per album. Usually most of their singles got the praise and a number of their other songs didn't get mentioned much.

First off, I'm so sorry for your loss Mark...

    Motley Crue

Overrated-I'm with Ray, Smokin' wasn't even a good cover of a third rate song at best...the rumors in Hit Parader and Circus Magazine at the time was that they were working on a cover of Missippi Queen, the Mountain song...THAT would have been COOL!!!!

Underrated-Come On And Dance, from their first album

Ratt-Like Ray, I don't listen to them as much anymore...I was a big fan back in the day... Warren was so cool to me at the time...

Overrated- I Want A Woman...I remember the parody of that on Beavis and Butthead...

Under-the version of Back For More on the Ratt EP, that was much cooler than the one on Out of the Cellar

  6. Crue:

    Ratt:
    Over - Round and Round
Under - Body Talk (from the Golden Child)

  7. Ratt may have been consistent, but they were consistently average. I can't really think of any of the stuff I heard during that period that was unlistenable, but at the same, none of it calls me back for more. If I didn't have a really cool Out of the Cellar poster in my basement, it might not ever get played!

  9. Motley Crue

Over: Shout at the Devil '97

You don't money around with a song that was good to begin with. This version is not good to me.

Under: Anything from the John Corabi disc. I still like this one a lot.

    RATT
Over: Round and Round. It is far from their best song, but everyone knows them for this one.

Under: You're In Love. Great Song!

  11. Crue:
Over - "Without You" makes me wanna gag.
Under - "Too Young To Fall in Love" never gets any love!!

    Ratt:
First off, I was NEVER a fan of Ratt. One of my least favorite bands of the '80s. I'm tempted to call most of their songs overrated, but I'll play fair.
Over - "Way Cool Junior" is one of the most awful songs I've ever heard in my life.
Under - "Lay it Down" was my favorite of maybe 2 or 3 that I actually liked. They rarely played it on the radio.
