Clash of the album covers

This is the debut of a new monthly feature. It's simple, I show two album covers and you just state which cover you prefer and why. I decided to start with two early metal album covers so here are...

Blue Cheer's Vincebus Eruptum

VS.

The Jimi Hendrix experience's Are you experienced

***Now remember you are just judging the cover, not the music. So which cover do you prefer and why?

  1. Both are great late 60s psyche covers, but I prefer Vincebus Eruptum. I think it's even trippier because it lacks color. Still, they're two great albums, inside and out.

  2. I like Jimi's cover better, for the opposite reason that Bob gave. It's trippier because of all the color. I can just imagine it popping off the shelves with that bright yellow.

  3. Jimi's cover has the colors and the design that perfectly fits the 60's.

  4. I think I would go with Blue Cheer's album just because I like the color more, but Jimi's cover is pretty awesome none the less.

  5. I prefer Blue Cheer. The background makes the logo and band photo stand out more. Plus the band look kind of cool while everyone in Jimi's band look like they are bloated because of the angle.

  6. I like Blue Cheer's album cover better. I just think the colors go better, and the photo looks cooler.

  7. I'm going to have to go with the Experience cover... I love Jimi eternally, and also I love the photo of them better.

I looked for years to find an original vinyl copy of Blue Cheer's album. Not only was it cooler, but the original was TEXTURED as well!

Granted, Blue Cheer weren't as good musically as the Hendrix Experience (even Jimi was quoted as saying he hated them!), but I always liked that cover!

  9. Hi Mark,

I'm inclined towards the Hendrix cover, although the Blue Cheer cover provides a nice contrast in the style.
