Interview with Kristy "Krash" Majors

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Kristy "Krash" Majors was the guitarist in Pretty Boy Floyd for quite a while and he is currently playing with Adler's Appetite. I recently had a chance to check in with him, ask him about Pretty Boy Floyd and what he is currently up to.

MM-You were in a band called Jett Blakk in New York. When was that and how what was the music like compared to Pretty Boy Floyd?

KM-ACTUALLY THE ORIGINAL NAME OF THE BAND WAS SIK BITCH AND THE MUSIC WAS EVERYTHING THAT NYC WAS ALL ABOUT. PUNK AND DEATH METAL MIXED INTO ONE. I GREW UP ON THE STREETS AND THE FIRST 3 CONCERTS I SAW WERE THE RAMONES , THE DEADBOYS AND THE PLASMATICS. THAT'S MY REAL ROOTS. OBVIOUSLY IT SOUNDED NOTHING LIKE PBF.

MM-What was the Sunset Strip scene like in the mid-late 1980’s?

KM-I ONLY CAUGHT IT FROM 1988 ON AND IT WAS A SMORGASBORD OF GIRLS, ROCK N ROLL AND DRUGS.

MM-Most reports say that your predecessor Aeriel Stiles wrote the majority of Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz. Is that true? Did you get to write any of the album?

KM-ARIEL STILES WROTE 2 SONGS THE REST OF IT WAS A TEAM EFFORT. ANYBODY CAN LOOK UP THE SONG WRITING SPLITS FROM HARRY FOX AND SEE THE PBF WRITING SHARES. IT'S AN OLD BORING QUESTION AND STORY THAT HAS TURNED OUT TO BE ONE OF THOSE URBAN LEGENDS.

MM-Pretty Boy Floyd seemed to have gotten a good push on the debut. Why didn’t you become more popular than you were?

KM-WE DIDN'T GET JACK SHIT FROM MCA. EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED FOR PBF WAS DONE BY US SPENDING OUR OWN MONEY AND HARD WORK. SUCCESS IS MEASURED IN ONES EYE. I CONSIDER SELLING 400,000 RECORDS A SUCCESS.

MM-Between about 91-95 you were doing managing and scouting of bands, I believe. What bands did you work with and what was that kind of work like?

KM-I WORKED FOR A SONY RECORDS AFFILIATE. I BROUGHT IN BANDS LIKE COMMON SENSE, SPRUNG MONKEY, GARY HOEY, WESLEY WILLIS, ETC... AND A BUNCH OF HUGE SMOOTH JAZZ ARTISTS LIKE KEIKO MATSUI AND PAUL TAYLOR. I ENJOYED WORKING THAT SIDE OF THE BUSINESS AS WELL. IT WAS CREATIVE . IT INVOLVED MUSIC AND I HAVE A PASSION FOR IT.

MM-Do you think glam is making a comeback? If so then what role do you play in the scene at this point in your career?

KM-PROBABLY NOT BUT MUSIC IS MUSIC AND I LOVE EVERYTHING FROM MOZART TO METALLICA SO I DON'T CARE TO LABEL MUSIC . I JUST DO WHATEVER I WANT MUSICALLY AND IF PEOPLE LIKE IT GREAT.

MM-Why should people buy your “Sex, drugs and rock-n-roll” CD?

KM-IF THEY LIKE WHAT THEY HEAR ON MY SITES http://www.myspace.com/kristymajors

AND http://www.kristymajors.com/home.htmTHEN BUY THE CD OR ILLEGALLY DOWNLOAD IT. IT'S ALL GOOD TO ME.

MM-Pick the band from the following pairs that you prefer.

KM-
Guns and Roses or Motley Crue - LOVE THEM BOTH
Lizzy Borden or WASP - WASP
Alice Cooper or Sweet - ALICE COOPER
Poison or Skid Row - SKID ROW

MM-Is there anything that you would have differently in your career?

KM-NO.

MM-What are you currently up to?

KM-I HAVE A FEW BUSINESSES. A RECORDING A STUDIO , TALENT AGENCY AND I'M GEARING UP TO START A CLOTHING LINE THAT WILL BE IN STORES SHORTLY. I ALSO PLAY WITH STEVEN ADLER AND HAVE BEEN TOURING THE WORLD. I'M CURRENTLY FINISHING UP MY NEXT SOLO ALBUM AS WELL WHICH SHOULD BE OUT IN JANUARY.

MM-Anything else you want to say about your band or your music?

KM-JUST A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE FANS AND FRIENDS I HAVE MET RECENTLY AT LIVE SHOWS AND ON MYSPACE. CHEERS!

Thanks to Kristy for doing the interview.
