Knyght-Destination Unknown

Knyght hail from Rome, Italy and have been around for about six years. However they are fairly young with the members ranging in age from 19 to 22. They play a style of music that I think was intended to be a blend between hard rock and AOR. I use the term “intended” because although they try to make this a hard rock/AOR album the five songs contained here ultimately miss on most levels. The keyboards are much too far in the foreground and quite honestly not smooth enough to be anything other than annoying. The guitar is very subdued and one little bit does emerge is fairly bland and uninspired. The rhythm section is also too far back in the sound and they provide virtually no drive or support. The vocals are perhaps the best part of the album and that’s still a stretch. The vocals are rough, slightly out of tune and don’t gel with the music. However there is a certain Michael Monroe style quality to the vocals and with some work and focus they might work with more glam oriented music, but that’s still a long stretch. The bottom line is that it really doesn’t rock enough to be hard rock nor is it catchy enough to be AOR. The good news might be the potential with the vocals and their youth may mean they have time. They just need to focus in and practice a lot more.
