Glamnation vol.4
Demon Doll
2008
Wow, it seems like volume 3 of Glamnation just came out a few months ago. Actually it did so I was surprised that the forth volume was coming out soon after the previous release. Like the others in this series this is a compilation of glam bands from different places. A variety of musical styles are also represented here as well under the glam banner. There is the sleaze glam type bands on here of course, but there are also some melodic hard rock, glam tinged power pop and other approaches as well. Cosidering this disc contains a whopping 18 tracks and the huge majority of them are good or even better. With so many songs to cover I think I will just center on what I think are the five best on this disc. "By my side" by Chains wraps up the album and the band are the best example of melodic hard rock on this album. This song reminds me a little of Dokken with strong vocals and a good sense of timing. The UK'S New Generation Superstars contributed the blazing "Do it cause I can" which is one of the heaviest and most energetic tracks on the album. The sound here is thick as molasses and their attitude is full of exactly the kind of fire that the glam scene needs. Italy's Stick it out kicked in "Stop teasin' me" which is on the heavy side of the hard rock tracks and owes as more to 90's hard rock than it does to the 80's. It's the kind of song that goes for t throat right away and does not let up. The second best song on this album came is "Paint you a picture" from LA veterans Blackboard Jungle. It's a fired up burst with shredding guitars and a solid groove. The best song this CD was actually one of the few songs that I had head before. I first heard Billion Dollar Babies' "Nineteen nintie four" on their "Stand your ground" EP from 2007. Unlike many of the bands on this disc, this band from Sweden have already found their niche musically. They have the hooks, the feel and the confidence they need to really do something. Now all they need is somewhat bright enough to sign them and give them the chance they deserve. Once again another solid compilation from the people at Demon Doll records that proves that there are some really good glam bands still out trying to push ahead and keep the scene alive.
