Hysterica-Metal War

Hysterica are a young all female band from Stockholm, Sweden. To be honest the band name and song titles such as "Girls made of heavy metal" and "Pain in the ass" had me feeling a bit skeptical about this act. However I put the disc in and gave in a chance. Subtle they are not as they play plenty of metal anthems and topics that were done many times for the 1980's came to a close. They love classic style, mid-tempo metal as my hears easily pick up traces of Maiden, Priest, Accept and Manowar. They stick to the same pace for the majority of the tracks and really they could have used some more variation in that department. However they know how to manipulate some solid rhythms and pull the listener in. Nineteen year old vocalist Anni De Vil might be singing some horribly cliched lyrics, but her range and confidence make up for most of it. I was worried this band would be nothing but cheese and they bring much, but after a few plays I was being one over. Most of the tracks sound like they could have been churned out around 1986. Still this band not only brings that sound, but they also carry the kind of spirit that other bands lack. If the music wasn't this good then I might just have to write them off as a joke band due to the lyrics, but fortunately that's not the case. The band members pose with gritted teeth and sharp metal weapons plus they have names like Sat Anica and Rockzlla. When it comes down to it they deliver on the music because every song is a well produced heavy hitter. Now at some point I think some musical growth is going to have to come into play if they want to move ahead, but for now this is a fine entry that I enjoy more each time I hear it.
