the Slayer cover is so amazing. it was one of the first few metal records i bought and i spent many hours staring at that cover. Must say i prefer the South Of Heaven cover to this one though. theres somethin real spooky about that one, blood flowing the streets, blood coming out of the church doors, blood pourning down from the tops of the mountains, stained glass Slayer logo clock towers, etc.
i'd already become quite used to the other one as the cover art for the Hexenhaus record, so it was a little weird seein it used for a Morbid Angel record. still, if we're just talkin about the artwork, i'd choose Slayer over Hexenhaus too
Definitely Slayer. It's dark and swirling with all kind sof odd images. A big step up from the fuzzy, messy creatures on the covers of the previous LPs.
Slayer - not just because its iconic, but also because it *looks* like Slayer sounds. (And RVH makes a great comparison to a Bosch nightmare. Sometimes it takes my eyes a sec to focus on that cover, in fact).
Morbid Angel has a long list of album covers that have underwhelmed me. I liked the last one, though.

GREat clash though!!
SLAYER!
ReplyDeleteI'd go with Morbid Angel. Funnily enough, I always hated the Slayer cover.
ReplyDeletebecause it reminds me of a Bosch painting, Slayer

ReplyDeleteJust remembered that the original painting is now owned by my friend Wayne who does all the artwork for Mighty High!
