Hey, where did this come from?
I have my CDs in no real order whatsoever. There I said and I do not care who knows it. Today I was sorting through one of the bins I have my CDs slopped into as I looked for the ones I was going to use for Lesser of two evils this week. I kept findin CDs that I do not remember getting or having, but I am sure the heavy metal disc fairy did not leave them there so I must have handled them at some point even if I did not play them. I guess because with the job and kids my music listening time is very limited for the most part. So even though I have many CDs I don't always get time to listen to them all that much. Do you ever come across items in your collection that you don't remember buying?
that happened to me a few years ago when i did the "great purge". i'm back up to about 1400 again...ugh. i am in the process of moving and after boxing them all up again, i just want to leave them there. i need someone to come over and digitize my collection for me.
ReplyDeleteI have all my albums in a database and all of my 12" vinyl at least is in order. It still happens to me all the time.
ReplyDeleteSean-I have no clue how many CDs or albums I have. At least my albums are all in one general area. Due to space limits my CDs are in several places in the house.
ReplyDeleteBob-The problem with that for me would be you have to enter them in the database. I don't think I would feel it was worth the effort.
I may not remember the music on the album, but I'm never surprised when coming across any of my CDs.
ReplyDeleteMy collection is a mess. Jewel cases are in storage (except from stuff I've bought in the last 3 years or so), CDs are either in piles or various CD cases. I'd love a nice set up for them, but don't have the space for it.
it took me a while to do it, but i keep mine organized on www.rateyourmusic.com
ReplyDeleteI don't think I ever forgot I had something. I'm pretty aware of my collection.
ReplyDeleteI have had a few "oh ya, I should listen to this again" moments.
All my CD's are in bins in the basement. It all started out with A's & B's in one bin and so on, but I ran out of bins so I've had to add misc sections to some of them.
I have all my music on my iPod so I can listen to any of it at any time. It's very freeing.
I understand the CD organization dilemma, yes I do. I have multiple areas of my home where they are "stored"... yes, I wonder aloud who gave, where did it come from or when was this particular CD bought? I have my "core" bands organized... after that it is Metal potpourri. It's like going to a flea market sometimes, in my own collection, so it's cool with me.
ReplyDeleteAre we all Metal CD hoarders? Hail Metal CD hoarders!!!
I just wish I kept all of my vinyl from years past. Then again, if I did, I really don't know where I would have stored them today. Probably under my bed.
I have all my cds, lps, tapes, and picture discs in one room, a room only for my music collection. Sometimes i have bought something twice, not remembering i already had that album but normaly i know what i got.
