Long time Colorado based power metal band Jag Panzer return with their first album in seven years. Hard to believe that this band formed some thirty years ago, but here they are still going strong as their new album shows. Back in their early days they were more a classic metal band and that foundation is still in their sound, but there are certainly progressive metal elements in their sound today as well. Quite honestly it's a welcome change because they how to use the style to their advantage. The eight minute plus epic "Book of kells" is a powerful example of the band's great songwriting skills. While "Union" is a memorable anthem guided by some spine shaking drumbeats. I was glad to hear the band open up a bit with "Overlord" which features some swirling guitars and the vocals let loose. My favorite track might just be "Bringing on the end" which follows a marching style but it also features plenty of pace changes and some striking yet chaotic solos. Actually there are no weak or filler tracks on this album. Instead just killer metal with the band playing to their strengths. Jag Panzer have had some highs and lows over the course of their career and some gaps in between releases, but it's great to see them back and in fine form.
Again I was surprised by how good this was. Jag Panzer deserve a lot of praise for this killer slab of metal!
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing this new Jag Panzer to my Metal attention! Now... I've got to get my ears into it!
