Alberto Rigoni-Rebirth

Nightmare
2011

This is the second solo album from Twinspirits bass player Alberto Rigonia. This project features contributions from a number of musicians, including drummers Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree, King Krimson) John Macaluso (Ark, TNT, Yngwie Malmsteen), bassists Michael Manring and Yves Carbonne, Swedish singer Jonas Erixon (Alicate), guitarist Tommy Ermolli (Twinspirits) and Simone Mularoni (DGM, Empyrios), keyboard players Federico Solazzo (Alexia), Andrea Pavanello (Centrica), Filippo Lui and Emanuele Casali (DGM, Astra). The sound is generally rock-prog fusion although at times the sound isn't totally defined as the players just bust out with a steady jam.
Fortunately the focus is more about atmosphere than it is about showing off what technical skill they possess. Expect some very smooth playing and bass fans will appreciate the different tones that Rigoni shows. The tracks with vocals are more typical of progressive metal and they are good, but I certainly prefered the instrumental tracks. Rigoni has an amazing handle on how to get so much out of each note. This is not an album that I could listen to all the time, but in the right mood it's definitely a worthwhile release.
