Roxx Records
2011
In 1991 Liberty N' Justice (LNJ) began life as a full fledged Christian hard rock band. Formed by Justin Murr and Patrick Marchand the band turned into more or less a solo project for Murr around 2002. Keeping the Liberty N' Justice name Murr contacted several well-known artists to help him with the Welcome to the Revolution album. Since then Murr has continued the tradition by enlisting guest musicians to help him out with each album. On Chasing a Cure the band is teaming up with Roxx Records for a Limited Edition Pressing. Originally released as a digital only download (for a donation of $7.50 or more) the EP has been expanded and will now be available in CD format for a limited time. Per the press release "Liberty n' Justice are trying to create awareness of epilepsy and raise money for research to find a cure with this special release. This disease hits very close to home for Justin Murr and his family. Justin's oldest daughter, Trinity Paige Murr, was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 7. For the past five years she has battled through daily medication, hospital stays, cluster seizures, induced comas, three weeks in the ICU - and finally even under going brain surgery." Now for those of you who have seen epilepsy affect people you know and love you'll understand when I say this is a truly worthwhile cause. All of the artists donated their time for the EP/LP. The original EP included:
"Say Uncle" (Paul Shortino of Quiet Riot / Rough Cut, Ron Keel of Keel & Eddie Ojeda of Twisted Sister)
"Throwing Stones" (Donnie Vie of Enuff Z Nuff & JK Northrup)
"Paige’s Song" (Philip Bardowell of MAGDALEN/Unruly Child/The Beach Boys and Tony Palacios of Guardian)
"Playing God" (Terry Ilous of XYZ, Jeff Paris and Richard Kendrick of Near Life Experience)
"Chasing A Cure" (Benny Mardones, John Pine and Bill Leverty of Firehouse)
This download EP by itself was worth $7.50 in that you had some great melodic hard rock/heavy metal on display. In typical Liberty N Justice style each artist is given a chance to shine and you can tell a great deal of effort went into crafted these songs. The expanded CD version has the bonus tracks:
"Black Or White" (Terry Ilous of XYZ, Alton Hood of D.O.C. & JK Northrup) Originally Recorded by Michael Jackson
"Quicksand Jesus" (Kelly Keeling of Baton Rouge) Originally Recorded by Skid Row
"Snake Eat Snake ‘Electric Version’" (David Raymond Reeves & Don Webster of Neon Cross)
"Butterface" (Mark Allen Lanoue of Biloxi & Joshua Perahia of Joshua)
"When Mullets Ruled The World" (Philip Bardowell of MAGDALEN/Unruly Child/The Beach Boys)
"Ground Zero" (Kelly Keeling of Baton Rouge and Kerry Livgreen of Kansas/Protokaw and Carmine Appice)
Plus two never before released demos that have never (and probably would have never) seen the light of day! True collectible for the LNJ fan!...
"Eve" (Tommy Denander)
"Damascus Road" (Tommy Denander)
On the bonus material "Black Or White" works surprisingly well. Seeing as I am not a Michael Jackson fan I did like this number. Could have down without the rap bit though! "Quicksand Jesus" is good (not as good as the original but you'll have that) as is "Snake Eat Snake". "Butterface" is good crunchy hard rock. "When Mullets Ruled The World" I could take or leave (probably leave) while "Ground Zero" was different but good. The two demo tracks will please Liberty N' Justice fans of old. Set for release on May 31, 2011 the CD will be available for a short time. With a limited number of copies being pressed (only 500) it is sure to sell out! If you would like to own one of these Limited Edition pressings pick one up now before they are gone. As I said there will only be 500 and once they are gone that is it. As an added bonus the first 100 Pre-Orders will receive an exclusive Liberty N Justice guitar pick! A great CD for a great cause!
