Toby Hitchcock-Mercury’s Down
Frontiers Records
2011
Vocalist Toby Hitchcock caught the attention of both the media and melodic rock fans when he was handpicked to lead Pride of Lions. Formed by Jim Peterik (founding member of Survivor) the band Pride of Lions proved to be a hit and over the course of three studio albums Toby Hitchcock cemented his place in melodic rock history. With a voice that is often compared to Bobby Kimball (Toto), Jimi Jamison (Survivor) or Lou Gramm (Foreigner) Toby Hitchcock is truly captivating. With his trademark sound he has become one of the top voices in AOR. This solo release captures his trademark voice perfectly and with the help of Swedish songwriter and producer Erik Martensson Mercury's Down is AOR heaven. Erik Martensson is well known for working with Jeff Scott Soto on the W.E.T. album and handles all of the instruments on Mercury's Down. The partnership is nothing sort of perfect with Erik's music and lyrics being worked into gold in the hands of Toby. The songs are easy on the ears and the production is clear and crisp. This has been a good year to be an AOR fan with Frontiers Records leading the way with one great release after another. Mercury's Down is simply a stunning example of how you can craft a melodic rock album that not only hits all the genres highlights but also maintains an individuals identity and trademark.
