  2. Not a bad list...as I agree with most of it, but your anti-Metallica bias really is validated with your omission of them here. How can they not even make a top 20 list...seriously? Some of their current work notwithstanding...they will always be pioneers who's first 3-5 records are about iconic as they come

  3. Andy-Thanks. Whenever I do these I look back and realize I left a band or two off. For me it looks like I left off Mercyful Fate and the Scorpions.

    Hoser-
Anti-Metallica bias? Please, just because I leave a band off does not mean I don't like them. However I am really only big on the first three albums so they don't make my top list...not by a long shot. It's my list I will put on who I like and be proud of it. I also asked for others to post their top list so post yours and slap Metallica in there. And for calling them inconic please stop at first three albums because and 4 and 5 were that ones that turned me against them.

Seems like lately you have taken particular interest in recent post to really be overly critical of their work. To me Justice was a pretty darn good record. The black album I thought was good, although not great. Anyway here is my list. Not sure I love the order, but here it is in any event. Enjoy or.....not.

    1-Black Sabbath
    2-Motörhead
    3-Led Zeppelin
    4-Judas Priest
    5-Metallica
    6-AC/DC
    7-Van Halen
    8-Deep Purple
    9-Hendrix
    10-Slayer
    11-Guns n Roses
    12-Anthrax
    13-Exodus
    14-Megadeth
    15-Scorpions

  5. Hoser-It's not just lately. I have had trouble with And justice for all since it's release in 1988 and the black album since it's release in 1991. Both have some good points, but after being so big on their first three releases both those albums disappointed me to some extent and they still do. However every so often I go back and give those albums another chance to see if something clicks, but it hasn't yet. In 1985/1986 Metallica were probably in my top five list, but I don't even listen to their albums that I like all that much any more.

Good list. Overkill, Accept, Saxon and Thin Lizzy were all considerations for me. A top 25 may sound like a lot of bands, but then when you sit down to work it out it's hard to narrow them down.

  6. Not sure I agree with Hendrix being on either list. Great guitarist yes. Hard rock? Maybe. I'd say more like classic rock. Debateable for sure. Hoser-I can agree with a lot of your choices, but Exodus and Death Angel?

  7. Andy-Gotta love Hendrix. Definitely heavy music for the time and I sure love a lot of early hard rock/metal from the late 60's/early 70's.
I am not huge on Death Angel, but Exodus are one of my favorite thrash bands of all time. Their first few and the last 3-4 are all killers.

Let the arguing continue! While I was tempted to put in Metallica becuase of their first three albums I opted not too because then I would have had to put in bands like Ratt (great first three albums!), Metal Church (first 2-3 albums were really good), Nuclear Assault and Carnivore (ok, really only 2 but you know what I mean!).

While you think 25 is a lot of bands you quickly realize how many you omit...just thought about the likes of Whitsnake, motley, ratt...nuclear assault another...sepultura one of my favorites I left off too. Such is our curse! Could Dokken even have a place in all this? Nice lists all around...as to Hendrix Andy...without him many of the bands on this list may not have been.

  10. Hoser-The same could be said for bands like MC5.
