Wiht - The Harrowing of the North
Devouter Records
2012
By pure chance it just so happens that my first introduction to this Leeds-based trio comes on the heals of their breakup in March of 2012. Seems a shame as this band, who have played with everyone from Orange Goblin to Corrosion Of Conformity, offers some charming fuzzed-out rock on "The Harrowing of the North". This 2-track album is 33 minutes in length. It's their first full-length album and their last album. It's also a concept piece that is warmly wrapped in a blanket of psychedelic-infused heavy doom/stoner rock. This is one of those releases where the music is epic and the experience is rich in colors. Again, this is both a celebration of art and a sad mourning of a group I just discovered as they called it a day. Still, I must consider the fact that Wiht's album is still a treasured prize of richly-textured rock.
