Twisted Sister-Double Live: Northstage 82 & Ny Steel 01

Eagle Rock Entertainment
2011

If your Twisted Sister how do you follow up those excellent reissues by Armoury Records? The answer is simple enough you just release a killer new DVD titled Double Live: Northstage 82 & Ny Steel 01. Starting off with disc one we are treated to what would be Twisted Sister's farewell to the club scene. This 1982 North Stage Theater concert is said to be the last club performance for the band before they would head off to Europe to record their first LP. While the footage might not be up to today's technical standards (this was after all in the days before video got a serious upgrade) it is good enough to get a feel for what must have been a truly emotional moment in history for the band. The video showcases a young and hungry Twisted Sister who were set to make it big. This footage is for the die-hard fans as it shows the group at it's leanest and meanest. Obviously the bulk of this show is made up of 1982's Under the Blade material. Tracks like "What You Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt You), "Destroyer", "Tear It Lose", "Under The Blade", "Bad Boys of Rock 'n' Roll", "Sin After Sin" and "Shoot 'em Down" are represented here as well as cover versions of "Leader of the Pack" and the Rolling Stones "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It)." Toss in some interview footage from the band talking about the North Stage performance and disc one is solid. Now disc two features material recorded in the wake of 9/11. Looking to raise money for the NYPD and FDNY Widows and Orphans Fund New York radio/television personality Eddie Trunk put together a benefit concert. Along with fellow New York musicians Anthrax, Overkill, Sebastian Bach, and Ace Frehley Eddie Trunk was able to convince Twisted Sister to reform and headline the show. Despite the fact that it was the first time Twisted Sister had played together in 14 years the band was able to put aside their differences and play a tight set. The band played hits like "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock" along with fan favorites like "Burn In Hell". United together in their anger, frustration and fear following the terrorist attacks Twisted Sister stole the show with a no frills set. While the early footage on disc one has the band all decked out in make up and drag the newer footage is just five guys without the glam just playing their hearts out. Both shows actually show the band with a sense of urgency and despite the contrast in outfits/years the result is the same. This is a band that meant business and played with their hearts on their sleeves. Disc two has interviews with the band discussing the reunion (which would lead to them reforming) and how 9/11 effected them individually. As a whole this 2 DVD set is a nice look at the band live through the years and a most for Twisted Sister fans.

  1. Yeah, this was a pretty amazing DVD set, particularly the 1982 show. It's an entirely different dimension to Twisted Sister most people missed out on. Glad Jay Jay is ramming all of this stuff at us.
