Stahlmann-Quecksilber

AFM Records
2012

Draw a nice long line from German electric rock pioneers like Die Krupps and Oomph to electric rock/metal act Rammstein. Now draw a much shorter line from Rammstein to Stahlmann and the result is more German electric rock with little in the way of original ideas. What more do Stahlmann bring to the table than that? Is there anything they have other than a love for all things Rammstein? Nothing as far as I can tell. Listen to this album and there really is nothing to hear that distinguishes them from Rammstein at all. As this is the group's second offering you would hope that they might look at trying to create their own take on the genre. It can't be so black and white. Granted if your from Germany these days and play electronic rock/metal your going to be compared to Rammstein. There is not a lot you can do to escape that fact. Painting yourself into a corner though is never a good thing and while it is one thing to wear your influences on your sleeves it is another thing altogether to sound like a second-rate version of the act your trying to copy. That is the main complaint one has with Stahlmann. They sound like a poor man's Rammstein.
