Mike Armine – Verse & Cleansing Undertones of Wake / Lift
Translation Loss
2012
This 2 CD set compiles the solo albums from Rosetta front man Mike Armine. "The Cleansing Undertones of Wake/Lift gets remastered on this version. This is a selection of various blasts of ambiance and pure drone. Frequently the music also encompasses sounds, rhythms and tones that sound like an early 1980's science fiction movie soundtrack as interpreted by someone with a sense of melody. Although the albums could be seen as demanding a certain amount of patience from the listener. I had to listen to the album a few times and have headphones to get the total effect, but it was sure worth the effort. The sounds are so loud with vibrant pulses that at first it's difficult to pick out all that's going on. If you focus in on what's below the surface you can center in on the underlying beats that are worked in to the formula. The production is nothing short of spectacular which really helps every particle of the music to come across. I definitely expect to be listening to this album in the upcoming months.
