Boston-based Leather Lung released this beast LP back in November of last year. It's charged
doom metal with hardcore death vocals, post-industrial grooves, and ultra-aggressive guitar riffs of the face melting variety. You can name your own price on this one, but something tells me that they would accept everything from smokes to human sacrifice in exchange!

Well, well, well what do we have here? Cult metal from Finland? Oh yeah! And this one is a golden oldie of the most wicked of forms...hybrid metal. More to the point this one is part doom, part death and part thrash and all kinds of epic evilness! It's screwy to think that this was the sole release from Finnish act Exitus as it's so damn good! Originally this was released back in 1990 and as demo to boot! Mostly it was passed along through the metal underground of the day which is quite remarkable in and of itself considering this was in a day and age before the Internet and there was only about 300 copies made to begin with. Now this band, which was only in existence from 1989 to 1990, is getting another shot at fame thanks to the folks at Svart Records. The promo material states that this one is "an absolute must for fans of Dream Death, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost and Candlemass" and I couldn't agree more! Musically these guys fit in well with those kinds of bands thanks to their dark and dismal take of thrash-heavy doom metal. For this re-release the 30 minute demo has been remastered so, while it still retains it's cool underground vibe, it's easily accessible thanks to some well-achieved fine-tuning. Svart Records is making this re-release available on vinyl with gatefold covers and it will come with an additional bonus CD-EP featuring ultra-rare, unreleased live and rehearsal tracks! This one is a limited-edition run with 350 copies available in black and 150 available in gold so it's best not to twiddle your fingers if you've interested in this piece of history!

After releasing two demos and a split split 7" with Valkyrie (guitarist Alan Fary actually plays in both Valkyrie and Earthling) we are now looking at a full-length debut album in the form of "Dark Path". Calling Virginia home the band, which first came together in early 2009, started out as a project by Alan Fary (guitar/vocals) and Brently Hilliard (drums). Soon enough the project turned into a full-on band and the Harrisonburg natives would find a solid lineup with the addition of Praveen Chhetri (guitar) and Jordan Brunk (bass). Recorded by Garret Morris (Windhand, Cough, Parasytic, Bastard Sapling) and mastered by Mikey Allred (Inter Arma, Hellbender, Across Tundras) this six-track release runs a little over 30 minutes, but that's more then enough time for this group to shake things up and get down. And down they do go towards a doom-encrusted hell inhabited by a race of Slayer-worshiping demons who live and die on all things blackened thrash! Earthling takes the left hand path as they move forward and down inhaling the smoke of the bands Death and Possessed while chipping away at the crusty outer edges of  early Venom and Cronos' idea of black metal. Earthling's debut-album doesn't exactly hide it's influences and it can't be called brilliant release, but seeing as it is blinding when it comes to the band's obvious love for what they're doing there's no way I could ever complain about how real they are! At the end of the day "Dark Path" is the result of a young band doing their own thing and not giving a crap about how it's perceived. Somewhere down the road we'll hopefully see Earthling emerge as a legitimate band to be reckoned with, but for now "Dark Path" is worth the investment and attention as it's a raw and rampaging collection of home-grown metal tunes from a home-grown group of fanatic metal musicians.

Here we've got a band/musical project that features Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod), Sanford Parker (Buried at Sea), Scott Kelly (Neurosis) and Bruce Lamont (Yakuza). Does that count as a super group? A real scary super group, but a super group nonetheless? That's left open to interpretation and/or imagination. As is, and armed with the notion that this 2-track release probably escaped from some laboratory tube,  this sort of post-industrial doom comes about by fusing together a little DNA from each of the participating individuals. On could rightly assume that this madness came about when material was collected from gaping wounds as these two cuts fall somewhere between our collapsing state of reality and the demons that haunt our nightly, and quite frugal attempts, at peaceful slumber.

Bellua-Bellua

Yet another demo that was original posted by Blood And Honor. And, yet again it's doom metal. Unlike my post yesterday (about Naga) this 2-piece band hails from L.A. and they play a more metallic form of doom. Five tracks worth of metallic doom. Of course my 70+ year old father did just walk down into my work-area and describe them as such: "What is that noise?". I'm not so sure he's into doom though (let alone heavy metal) so take that with a grain of salt. I will admit that Jonathon Heuer (guitar + vocals) is not the word's best doom metal singer, but I wouldn't say his vocals ruin Bellua either. It just is what it is.
