Fu Manchu-California Crossing
Dream Theater-Octavarium

What's coming up?

This week I will finally have my review for Dream Theater's Octavarium out. It is about halfway done at this point. I will also have a review of the Sword's Age of winters. Tomorrow there will be another round of the Lunchtime game with a new set of metal musicians to choose from. Other than that I am not completely sure what else I will write about this week although I do have a few ideas bouncing around.

When you review Dream Theater, I hope you'll address the fact that the intro to "Octavarium" sounds eerily similar to Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond." The first few times I heard it, I almost thought it had switched CDs and I was hearing some slightly modified version of PF.

David- I don't know Pink Floyd so I wouldn't know that. I am struggling with my review because I trying hard to be objective. I should judge this album on it's own merit, but as with the three previous albums I keep comparing them with Images and words and Awake and they are coming up short.

Oh, glad to see I am not the only one who likes Rough Cutt. They may not impress at first, but they grow on you.

Tumors grow on you, too, so that's a mixed phrase ...

But as I've said before, I enjoy Shortino's voice and find Rough Cutt to be at least in the top half of hair metal bands. And I credit you for letting me know about the re-release!
