Guilty Pleasure Bands
I may very well find that this is an idea that only I have. Perhaps every one else has much better taste than I do, but I thought that I would throw this one out there. Are there any bands that you know they are not that good in some respect or they are just really cheesy, but you like them anyhow?
I will say these bands falls into that category for me and feel free to boo me for liking these bands if you must.
Twisted Sister-Not a lot of playing ability, but a lot of attitude. One of the first bands I really got into.
Ratt-Not a lot of talent and very tame overall. Yet there was always something catchy about their music and they were really consistent from 83-90.
White Lion-I know that I will get booed for this one. Yes they were prime cheese, but I think they had a lot of potential at times. This is a band that I didn't like much back in the day, but they began to grow on me over the last few years. I was just listening to Mane Attraction last night actually.
Gwar-Yes, they are stupid, but they are fun. Sometimes it's good to have a few bands like this to balance things out because some bands take themselves so seriously.
Venom-They used to be a huge favorite of mine back around 86-88. They were a huge influence on speed and death metal. Yet they could hardly play their instruments during the first few albums and they were incredibly cheesy. They actually got less interesting once they started learning how to play their instruments.

Ratt....yes. Their "Out of the Cellar" album was good, but the others were pretty cheesy.
Great White was another. They had some talent and at times they were bluesy, but yes.......cheesy.
How about Slaughter? Does anyone remember them?
This question is like a softball to me with my hair metal tastes ...
My list includes bands that most people hate ... but I love much of their stuff; some are better than others but all rank high on the cheese factor:
Angel Witch, Blue Murder, Bulletboys, Cinderella, Dokken, Faster Pussycat, Frehley's Comet, Great White, Junkyard, L.A. Guns, Loverboy, Rough Cutt, Saga, Skid Row, Slaughter, Tora Tora, Triumph, White Lion, and Whitesnake.
All guilty pleasures. And is it wrong that I actually enjoy some of Spinal Tap's metal parodies?
I would actually say Ratt is better than most of these bands. But I'll throw them in for good measure, too.

Hmmm...for me, I'd say:
Quiet Riot, Dokken, Extreme, Winger, and Cinderella. Damn, that's so embarassing.
I was going to say Winger, but I dind't want to be that guy.........thanks for doing it for me.
I am a Great White fanatic. They threw me a beer at a concert in the 80's. My loyalty was bought pretty cheap. On the same token I hate Warrent because they got pissed and bolted after two tunes because someone threw a baseball cap on the stage and hit the lead puss.
Dokken, Winger, Skid Row, Ratt. I didn't include Triumph, because I don't consider them a guilty pleasure; I actually like them a lot.
Krokus - Not as talented as Accept but I truly believed in this band. To this day I still buy their albums, Rock The Block was good.
Manowar - They're good for what they do but the "Die for Metal" theme is way cheesy. I still like their early stuff.
W.A.S.P. - A good band but major cheese.....the 'Blind In Texas' video is priceless. The Last Command is my favorite W.A.S.P. album.
Triumph - Poor man's Rush. Picked up the US Festival CD & DVD when it came out. Trivia note: The 'Follow Your Heart' video was filmed at the Providence Civic Center, my old haunt.
Poison - Defined cheese.
I didn't think Ratt & Great White were that bad but time does cloud the memory.
Mike-Welcome.
David-I don't care for Loverboy or Great White. I have never heard Junkyard or Saga, but I like all of the rest of the band's you mentioned.
Phoenix-I am a big Cinderella fan.
Bruce-I probably like Dokken's albums from the 80's more now then I did back then.
V and D- I have always liked WASP and Manowar a lot.
Hey say what you like about GWAR, but they are fun to see!!
Yeah, hair metal was my thing as well. Ditto for just about every band that was mentioned. Although, just like Bruce said for Triumph, I don't consider them really guilty pleasures. Some of my favorites that I still think are/were really good:
Ratt
Cinderella
Great White
L.A. Guns
Skid Row
Tesla
Dokken
White Lion
Now, you want to talk REAL guilty pleasures? How about another two from my high school/college days that I was really into:
Dangerous Toys
Pretty Boy Floyd
That last one is going to be tough to top. Their album was called "Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz," for goodness sakes.
I think Triumph and Tesla are generally somewhat respected. They were more no frills hard rock so there wasn't much of a cheese aspect to their music.
Dangerous Toys was a great band.
I'm trying to remember bands that I liked but were far from my friends' mainstream at the time:
Vinnie Vincent Invasion
Nitro
Tuff
I actually like half the ones mentioned here too and don't think they're *that* cheesy.
But I'll have to add Leatherwolf, XYZ, and Bang Tango.
Dread Zeppelin-Really Way out there but the put out some really fine Reggae Cover songs.
All the others, whith the exception of White Lion I can agree with.
V and D-I never heard Tuff or Nitro. Nitro had a reputation of being way over the top.
Onmywatch-I am a big fan of early Bang Tango.
Sgt.-I barely remember Dread Zeppelin.
I used to be a big fan of GWAR. I love their first two records. I have not followed them much after that.
Venom have a new CD coming out called Metal Black which is supposed to be return to their sloppy roots. I think that only Chronos remains from the original band.
My favorite guilty pleasure band right now is 3 Inches of Blood. A lot of fans consider them to be a joke band but I love them. They are so metal, lol.
