80's metal fan

Ten things you had if you were a metal fan in the mid-late 1980's.

1)Long hair of course.
2)Denim jacket.
3)Big back patch of a metal band on the back of the jacket.
4)A bunch of buttons of metal bands on the front of the jacket.
5)Lots of concert shirts almost all of them in black.
6)Posters of metal bands on your wall.
7)Pin-ups from Hit Parader, Circus, Rip and Metal Edge on your wall.
8)Ripped jeans.
9)Some type of metal footwear. Probably either worn leather Nikes, Chuck Taylors or combat boots.
10)A notebook with band names and logos drawn all over them.

And of course lots of us thought it as cool to smoke. However I finally kicked that bad habit in 1998. It got to a point where I either needed to give up smoking or give up running because the two habits were not working out together.

Great list! I can just picture you in your 80's attire. Glad you chose to run rather than smoke.

I was in my 30s during the 80s, and pretty much a closet metal fan(Bible Belt, ya know), so the only things I owned were the lps and/or cassettes of my fave bands.

I had very few concert tees to remind me of the concerts. Most of my money at concerts were spent on other concert 'paraphenalia.'

Substitute the jean jacket for a black leather biker jacket and you got me. If it wasn't black I didn't wear it.

bar bar a and curare z-Thanks, quitting smoking was very difficult. I smoked a pack and a half a day for 11 years.

Fred Charles-I have a cigar box filled with metal band buttons.

Bruce-That's what really matters in thelong run is the music.

Fuzz-I had a few because that's back when they didn't cost an arm and a leg.

Mike-I had a leather jacket too, but not until I was out of high school and making enough money to buy one.

I wasnt a metal fan so I only had the ripped jeans. I did have a demin jacket but I never ever wore it.

Over in the UK in the (early 80's) the metal guys used to wear a denim jacket with the sleeves cut off over a black leather motor cycle jacket.
The denim would be faded and studded or had a band logo sewn on the back.

I was a "mod" in the early 80's. (Ska 2-Tone) all the Mod gys wore suits or crisp jeans and Fred Perry polo shits, with short cropped hair. The difference between the two groups was an advantage when it came to fighting obviously ;)

I still have my denim jacket from back in the day. My wife has it kept in a trunk with other stuff from when we were kids.

I have 1 pin left.....a KISS pin in my car. I used to collect those guitar shaped pins from the flea market.

What about the bandanas you could wear around your knee?

Or the white t-shirt with the Rising Sun on it (see Rudy Schenker circa 1984)?

I almost forgot the black leather gloves with the fingers cut off.

Had a pair of those to go with my Judas Priest & KISS studded wristbands.

The oldest concert shirt that I still have is a Morbid Angel shirt from 1991. It has holes in it but I will not part with it!

Fred Charles-I have a Metallica tour shirt from when I saw them in 1988 and it fits me way too tightly, but I don't plan on parting with it. I also have a Judas Priest tour shirt from '90 that fits pretty well for it's age. Believe it or not I thought Blessed are the sick was a great album when I heard it in '91, but I thought their albums after that were just noise with no soul.

Don't forget the "F--- You!" attitude. Most metalheads I knew had plenty of that, too.
