Make a movie
Let's say you get to write and direct a movie that has to have something to do with rock music. Doesn't have to be metal, but it does have to be rock related. It can be fictional, it can be a documentary, it could be a biography of a musician or band or whatever kind of film you want to make. So what would it be about?
My idea is probably one that only I would want to see. I would make a film about a hard rock band in a small city in the midwest around 1983-84. They get to where they are as big as they can be where they are at and realize if they want to get a record deal then they will have to move. So they contemplate leaving where they grew up and their families to go to LA and take a stab at trying to make it there. It would be serious, but have comedy mixed in. It would probably be called "Little Pond" since "Big Fish" has already been taken.

I always thought about making a movie about a group of awful musicians who can't get their shit together and break up (that should familiar, Mark, eh?) but later on in life as older and wiser guys they take another crack at it and put something together. No big hokey crowd goes nuts for the old farts bit, just a simplistic story of getting "with it" and making meaningful music...

Your idea is great and so is Ray's.
I'd go from a female perspective. Maybe she's a great drummer or guitar player. How hard it would be to get taken seriously in the male dominated field, all the battles against wardrobe and public image. The stereotypical crap she'd have to deal with along the way just to make it huge one day simply because of her talent and authenticity...not because she screwed everyone in the band.
This interests me because there aren't any women like that really.
I realize there are people like Pat Benatar and Chrissy Hynde, but there aren't any female versions of Eddie Van Halens or John Bonhams, you know?

Great post and great idea. I've always wanted to do something sort of like that documentary "My Date With Drew" but instead "How I Brought Floyd Back Together." I want to set a two month time frame where I have to try to bring Floyd together to play a show, this means that Gilmour, Waters, Wright, and Mason must all play in the show. It also has to be a full concert, not some four song set.
I'd go see your movies.
I would love to see a documentary of Motley Crue showing the entire history as laid out in the recent book. Impossible, without a time machine and load of hidden cameras ... but it would be fun.

Tough one. I would probably want to do a documentary about a lesser known genre like doom or stoner rock or do some kind of history of metal in the 80s. The 80s was a great period since a lot of different metal styles were born back then.
Seems 2 me these ideas have been done and done....
How about a movie with a rapper who gets his Ass kicked....
...and comes out playing Rock-n-roll!

Ray-Sounds good although I have personally never played in a band.
Onmywatch-Jennifer Batten is a guitarist I only know by reputation, but she is well respected in guitar circles. She has played with Michael Jackson and Jeff Beck among others.

David-I think a Motley Crue documentary at this point would just be kind of goofy.
Fred-The only "documentary" of heavy metal was Decline of western civilization 2 which was largely a big joke.
Starbender-Welcome. I don't think these ideas have all been done. Anything that puts down rap has some promise to it.

A pure NWOBHM documentary with some of the more obscure bands. Make it a DVD only release that is 8 hours long.
I used to have a running joke that I was going to make a documentary about White Lion.
Actually, I've really been into the North Mississippi Allstars lately. I think I'd like to do a documentary on them. From what I understand, the Dickinson brothers (2/3 of the band) grew up kind of rebelling against the whole Hill Country blues thing. Well, I dont' know if rebelling is the right word, but they listened to a lot of rap and hardcore stuff and ended up forming a punk band. Their dad is a producer who's worked with everyone from the Rolling Stones to Ry Cooder. Eventually, the boys got back to their roots and they do a great job of meshing their punk, rock and rap influences with traditional blues and soul. I think their story would be an interesting one to tell. And Luther Dickinson is a guitar GOD.

Beckeye-I would probably almost any music documentary if it was done well enough.
I'd do the story a girl from California that moved to Oregon and was invited to be in a very popular local band that played in Portland and Eugene. It was a dream come true for her but a lot of the female fans started to complain to the band that they didn't like her and wanted her out or they would stop paying to see shows. The band stood up for her because the band became divided over the issue and eventually the girl had decided to quit the band and moved back to California, never and resort to being a cocktail waitress at a nightclub until a band there discovered her and invited her to play with them...don't know how it ends.

That movie "My Date With Drew" was ridiculously funny. Couldn't believe he pulled that off!
