1-Name one album or CD you bought where you think you got a bargain.

2-Name one album or CD where you think you paid too much for what it was.

3-Recommend one CD you like a lot that you don't think many people have heard (can be old or new).

1) I got the This is Boston Not LA compilation on ebay for like $15 a few years back. That was pretty good.

2) I paid $35 for Government Issue - Make an Effort 7" (2nd pressing) which I later saw on ebay for about half that.

3) Rum Diary - We're Afraid of Heights Tonight. The Rum Diary finally lived up to the promise of their Mileage 7" from four or five years earlier.

1. TOOL - Undertow. I found it on the $2 shelf at a used CD store. I think someone listened to it once and traded it in for something... I had no idea who they were, and bought it based on the album art alone. LOL. Now they're huge and one of my fav. bands. :)

2. I'll have to think about that one...

3. Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet. Unbelievable band.

1. I got pretty much every Led Zeppelin CD (except "Presence" and "LZIII") for free when my brother got the big box set. That was one hell of a bargain!

2. Meat Loaf- Bat out of Hell II. Horrifyingly bad. I tried selling it back TWICE at different stores and neither would take it.

3. Chris Cornell - Euphoria Morning. I don't think a lot of people bought this solo CD and everything I've heard from people who do know of it don't do it justice. It's such a good record, but a lot of Soundgarden fans probably don't like it because there aren't any thrashers on it.

1. A few years ago, I rescued a copy of Riot - Thundersteel from a 99 cent bin.

2. I used to buy unsigned/independent Hard Rock rarities in collector's circles, sometimes for big bucks. I bought The Unknown - Big Dreams for around $60-$75 I believe. To me, the album sucked. I recently sold it for $80.

3. Q5 - Steel the Light

Bargain: Picked up Queens of the Stone Age's Rated R for a few dollars at a Tower cheap-rack sale.

Overpriced: Bought the full package version of Kiss' Alive IV. Quite a waste.

Recommended: Abdullah's Graveyard Poetry.

I bought 12 CD's for a penny once from Dick Clark. I think the bastard still has a piece of my soul.

I keep seeing people posting about how good Porcupine Tree is. I only have In Absentia, but found it to be light and dull. Is it just a bad album or are we on different pages with our tastes?

1-I got Bangalore Choir's On Target for $6 and I think it normally goes for more than twice that.

2-I paid $18 for a new import cd of Heathen's Breaking the silence with bonus tracks. The bonus tracks were just demos of the same songs. It's a good album, but I don't listen to it that much. I would have been better off getting a used copy on vinyl and it probably would have cost me 1/3 of what I paid for the cd.

3-Acid King-Three
Big,thick, 70's influenced stoner rock from a female fronted band.

@ Bob Vinyl: U can't judge a band by one album. If you're looking for straightforward metal, it's not Porcupine Tree. They are more progressive and intellectual than that. Check out Anesthetize from the new disc. Listen with caution; these are REAL musicians:)

1) My band was supposed to play with Fuel back when they were still a crappy unsigned cover band (as opposed to when they became a crappy signed "original" band). I went to one of their shows, and the drummer gave me a copy of their demo/EP. He and I crossed paths occasionally, and he always seemed like a very decent guy; when he got fired from Fuel, it confirmed my suspicion that the band was a bunch of douchebags with no musical or personal integrity. I sold the demo/EP on ebay for like $75. Caveat emptor.

2) When I was a kid, I paid $15 for an Electric Light Orchestra vinyl box set. I try to pretend it never happened, but it did. Please don't bring it up, or you'll make me cry.

3) Rain Tree Crow - This one-time reunion of the original members of Japan was recorded largely in one session. Its subtle nuances are easy to overlook, but the album is full of gems. Karn and Jansen are one of my favorite rhythm sections, and this album showcases their abilities to utilize silence and simplicity.

lone beader - I am seldom looking for anything straightforward. I found In Absentia to be very well-played, but also kinda soulless. It's similar to how I always felt about Dream Theater (although I haven't listened to them in years). I'll see if I can get hold of Anesthetize and check that out, because you're right about not judging a band by one album.

1-Name one album or CD you bought where you think you got a bargain.

Thunderstone Tools of Destruction for $3.00
Masterplan - Aeronautics for $1.00

2-Name one album or CD where you think you paid too much for what it was.
I paid close to 40 with shipping for a copy of the Snakes - Once Bitten. It have been out of print for years. This is the disc that has Jorn Lande singing with former Whitesnake members. 40 is overkill on any CD, but I am still glad that I grabbed it. It still gets top dollar on Ebay.

3-Recommend one CD you like a lot that you don't think many people have heard (can be old or new).

Gotthard - Domino Effect
Thunderstone - Evolution 4.0
Grand Lux - Carved In Stone

Ok, I know thats 3. All 3 discs are 2007 releases that are worth the money.

I went to this little store that sells older CD's and I got, Slaughter "Stick It To Ya" for only $8!

~2~
I think I paid to much for Winger's new album "IV". I expected more out of it. Aside from a couple songs, it isn't that good.(IMO)

~3~
I bought Trixter's s/t debut album for only $8. It is a really good album.(IMO)

1. Shotgun Messiah - Second Coming. I think I paid like $5 in the Used bin at a local record store. This was a great CD!

2. I paid full price for Judas Priest - Angel of Retribution CD & DVD set. IMO, the CD was lame by Priest standards and the DVD wasn't much better.

3. Now the band is called BaptizedxFire, but previsouly they were known as Blazed. Both bands were fronted by vocalist Jesse Blaze Snider (Dee's son) A few years ago they put out a CD called The Party Starts Now and it was KILLER!

1. When Best Buy opened by me they were Selling Velvet Underground & Nico for like $7, definitely a great deal.

2. $18 for Incubus' "Make Yourself", I loved "Pardon Me" but thought the rest of the CD was complete crap. I just remember I gave it to some girl for free.

3. King Crimson "Larks' Tongue in Aspic" I'm young so it's hard for me to truly gauge how many people have heard of it but all I know is I don't have one friend who owns this CD.

Another great album that you might not know about is from the band...
Alias! It is their s/t debut that came out in 1990.
Their vocalist, Freddy Curci, has one of (if not the best) voices that I've ever heard!

bargain- Krokus' "Headhunters"

disappointment/not worth the money- RATM- "The Battle of Los Angeles"; Guerilla Radio" was the only decent song on the whole cd.

I always thought the first Government Mule cd, "Gov't Mule" was pretty good.

Bedlam - Into the coals - I've bought the album 3 time at 13$ total.

Bal-Sagoth's - Cthonic Chronicles
Great album but at 40 bucks ... it hurt ... ouch.

Virgin Black's - Requiem Mezzo Forte is the best damn album I've heard in a long time. Symphonic doom metal with gothic, death metal tendencies. Brilliant.

Easily the best bargain was the Escape from LA soundtrack for a mere buck. It could've stunk and I wouldn't have felt put out.

I paid way too much Madonna's I'm Breathless and it's a mediocre album

Since I have to recommend (or slag) albums on a continuous basis, I will recommend the upcoming Supagroup album Roll In Smokin' This album is nuts, but it rocks so good. It's like they rearranged a lot of Bon Scott era AC/DC songs into brand new ones, along with plenty of 80s hard rock...very impressive for what it is

1) I got Status Quo's Quo for 50 cents at the Salvation Army thrift store.

2) I probably paid almost $30 for Elend's Les ténèbres du dehors. I played it a few times and thought, "Yeah, it's OK," then filed it for 9 years.

3) Burning Saviours, Hundus
