Bad lyric day
Last weekday of the month means it's time for bad lyric day. These are from "Why trust you" off of Alice Cooper's Trash album
You come on strong with a great big smile
But your teeth are as sharp as a crocodile
You promised me the moon and the stars and the sun
But you never did nothin' for anyone
Can't look me in the face or straight in the eye
I'd buy the movie rights to your alibi
I wonder how long you will go
I wonder how high your head will blow
You're a psychopathic liar
Your soul is on fire
You're bluffin' with nuthin'
While the stakes are gettin' higher
First it's like this elementary school mentality of songwriting that everything has to rhyme. So you get some real stretches such as "alibi" is there just because it rhymes with eye. This style only helps to enhance the cheese factor that is present in this song and most of the album. If I bothered to read the lyrics to all of the songs on this album then I wonder how high my head would blow. Oh, wait I need a rhyme with blow so I guess it's time for me to go.

I think you can do far worse in rock lyrics. Most lyrics are fairly bad if you judge by the standards of poetry, but unlike poetry, they have the music to help them convey their message. Don't get me wrong, these aren't good, but they don't seem particularly bad as rock lyrics go. I actually kinda like the line, "I'd buy the movie rights to your alibi."
Yeah, I also didn't find it too cheesy - not one of Alice's best and a bit plastic, but I have seen a lot worse.
I think it's really poor. Not horribly cheesy bad, just clunky and formulaic, the kind of lyrics that could be written in about 90 seconds.

This reminds me a LOT of the lyircs I'd write in high school...not what I'd expect from Cooper!
