Rhino Bucket Interview
I recently got to interview Brian Forsythe, Georg Dolivo and Reeve Downes of Rhino Bucket. I got to ask how their current tour is going plus what they in mind for the near future.
-MM-You released "And Then It Got Ugly" last year. Then "Pain and Suffering" was re-mastered and released this year. It seems like you have been touring for most of that time as well. How long have you been touring and how has the tour been?
BF-There have been a few extended periods where we went out for a month here or there but most of the touring has been sporadic. We've been booking ourselves so a good booking agent would help. It’s been fun so far. Anytime that I’m on stage playing my guitar I’m having fun.
GD-We've been touring on and off for the past 16 months. It seems that wherever we go the crowd is appreciative of the effort that we put into our shows. Sometimes the crowd is large, sometimes not so much. lol But either way, we give it all we've got.
-MM- Any good stories from this past tour?
BF-Opening for Kix was interesting. Of course, after doing the Rhino Bucket set, I had to change clothes turn around and come back out on stage with Kix. That got a little exhausting after a while.
GD-As I now have kids that are internet savvy, I'm going to pass on this one.
RD- Heh,Heh,Heh
-MM-What are your recording plans for the future?
BF-We’re about to take off across the US for the month of October in a Winnebago. Our plan is to write the next Rhino Bucket record as we’re driving across the US, and record it early next year.
GD-We're going to start recording when we get back from this leg of the tour. Once again, Stephan Sigurson will be behind the board and, I've got to be honest, the new songs are simply the best we've ever had.
RD- We're trying to get a new record out early next year. We would like to do a live recording soon too.
-MM-What was it like playing Rocklahoma?
BF-Very interesting! I was surprised at the turn out. ‘80s rock is alive and well! Our time slot wasn’t the greatest but our audience consisted of only hard core Rhino Bucket fans so that was cool. It was nice just being there and keeping our name out there and visible.
GD-It was fucking hot! lol All in all, it was fun. I wish we had played later in the day but whatever.
RD- It was hot! You know festivals are kinda more about the party than the music and it was a great party. It was great playing with Simon again too.
-MM-It seems like a number of bands sound like AC/DC. What sets Rhino Bucket apart from other bands that sound like AC/DC?
BF-Yes, but we’ve got Simon Wright playing drums!
GD-We're better. lol
RD-I think what sets us apart from those bands and AC/DC is mainly Georg’s lyrics. There are a million other things as well and I guess it depends on what band your talking about - Krokus are different from Rose Tattoo who are different from The Four Horsemen and Junkyard but they all have an AC/DC thing about it.
-MM-Rhino Bucket emerged right before hard rock/metal kind of got shoved aside by grunge. Do you ever think about what it would have been like for you guys had metal stayed on top?
BF-That was before my time in the band. I was still dealing with Kix at the time.
GD-No, I don't dwell on the past. To be honest, the Seattle thing didn't really fuck with us at all. We just play straight ahead rock and fucking roll. There will always be a place for Rhino Bucket.
RD- I really consider most of the grunge bands metal bands and the grunge thing just being the evolution of the metal scene.We've played on a lot of shows with Alice and Chains, STP and the like and it was the same audience and from a musical point of view the same music just different haircuts and marketing.
-MM-Is there anything you wished that you had done differently in your music career?
BF-More Money.
GD-I wish I had a permanent drummer. I know that I'm lucky in that we have three great drummers that we play with, but I miss the dynamic of having a full fledged fourth member of the band.

Great interview. I have always enjoyed Rhino Bucket. They have that AC/DC sound down pat and Bar Time was an awesome tune.
