Big back patch
Back in the day it was the thing to sport a denim jacket with a big back patch sewed onto the back. My first back patch was a Metallica-Ride the lightning one, but it was so cheap that the design started to rub off after maybe three months. So I ordered a more quality patch which is the Anthrax-Spreading the disease patch that I took a picture of here. I had this on my jacket from about 1987 until 1990 when I stopped wearing the jacket. Somewhere around then I removed the patch from the jacket, but I still have it and as you can see it's still in good shape. So I'll probably hold onto it and pass it onto one of my kids later if one of them gets into metal.

Those were the days.
I remember having one with Iron Maiden's "The Trooper" single cover(on a black jacket) and another with venom's "Black Metal" album cover, this on a denim VEST.
Can't believe I had the guts to wear a denim vest, even in 1985...
Oh, and it was a denim vest with spikes over the shoulder!
Those patches maybe started in the 80s but its a timeless thing and still many metal heads have a jacket with patches on it. I still wear a denim vest with a big TWISTED SISTER back patch on it and little ones of MOTORHEAD, WASP etc....and proud to wear it. Also its nice to see that nowadays many young people were patches on their jackets and being proud to be part of the metal movement.
ITS A TIMELESS THING TO DO/WEAR because metal is timeless too.
Ohhh, i am 32, nearly 33 and started wearing those patches in the late 80s when i was a kid.
Old motherf.uckers, put on those old denim jackets with patches on again and be proud to be a metalhead. Not only liking the music but also proud to be a part of the movement.
the last two posts are mine.
[Murtaugh/]*sigh* I'm too old for this shit[/Murtaugh]
The way I see it, you don't need to dress like it's 1984 to show your love for a music style. But if you prefer that way, hey, it's a free country.
Thing is, I prefer these kinds of things to stay in that sweet nostalgic place of my teenage memories... yeah, right beside Mad Magazine and "Highlander".
Oh, and by the way, down here where I live, patches and denim vests are far from timeless...
They still sell patches at my local record store as well. I have some old small patches and a Van Halen bandanna that I'll take pictures of post here at some point.
I had a cherished VENOM Black Metal back patch. It was fucking bad ass!
I still have mine. Badass, indeed.
Its not about dressing like 84. Its also a perfect dress(those patches on your jacket) in 2008. Why??? Because its a timeless thing to do. In the 80s it was in the fashion to walk like that if you liked metal, today its not but that doesnt mean its only for 1984, its also great for 2008.
I respect your opinion anyway Luiz.
I have a backpatch story that I'll have to post some time. It involves the cheapest looking backpatches that I have ever seen in my life.
It's cool, Rene. :-)
I respect your opinion too. I have to admit, I kind of miss the days when every metalhead had backpatches, pins, and all that stuff. Everybody dressed like that guy in Judas Priest's "Hot Rockin'" video. Those were the days.
Thanks Luiz but you can still live those days if you want it. We are living like that still in many cities of europe and i know you can do it too in your city or town. For shore little by little more and more will follow you and you can live the 80s again in 2008 because its a timeless thing Luiz. Think about it!!!!!!!!!
Stay metal forever,
Rene.
Keep the kutte alive!
All Hails from Austria
im 15 and i done exactly that. gone out and put maiden motorhead and metallica patches on a demin vest.it is timeless and it was done before the 80's anyway.
my current favorite patched jacket is black denim with a Pentagram back patch and some other ones as well. large custom painted skulls on the shoulder part above the back patch. damn awesome.
