Bison B.C.-Dark Ages

Photobucket

Metal Blade
2010

I remember when Bison B.C.'s last album came out and there lots of comparisons concerning their music that included, but were not limited to High on fire, Mastodon and Kyuss. While all were accurate some extent this band was certainly doing more than enough to define at least of their own sound too. I think they continue to develop on their latest outing. Some bands try hard to be many things to many people, but this is a band that manages to be many things without sounding like they are trying that hard. They have layers of fuzz like many stoner rock bands, but they move faster than that and they peel off the heaviness of doom, but they are too energetic to stay put for long. They come across as a group with many swirling ideas and fortunately they know how to use and manipulate these ideas without sounding jumbled or too busy. Indeed this is one of those albums where you look at the running time and think that can't right because you will certainly will feel like you heard much more music than that. So obviously Bison B.C. are not letting comparisons hold them back or pin them down, but instead they continue to plow forth bringing everything to the table that they can. I expect them to continue along that path in the future too.
