Cynthesis-DeEvolution

Sensory Records
2011

DeEvolution is the upcoming debut album from prog rock/metal band Cynthesis. The band is made up of three original members of the beloved band Zero Hour ( founding twin brothers Jasun and Troy Tipton and original vocalist Erik Rosvold -- for the first time on a recording since their heralded albums The Towers of Avarice [2001] and Metamorphosis [2003], both considered landmark releases in the progressive metal community) along with drummer Sean Flanegan (Enchant). DeEvolution was recorded and produced in 2010 by Dino Alden (Marty Friedman, Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, Zero Hour) and is a concept album. DeEvolution tells the story of an elite group of leaders from a heavily industrialized city who find, brainwash and then exploit an indigenous tribes' shaman, believing he would be the perfect supreme leader. By propping him up as possessing all the answers to society's ills, the elites use him in order to gain and keep more control over the masses in order to influence the masses via religion, media, consumerism and government. Featuring eight epic cuts DeEvolution is not just a rehash of Zero Hour. It is much more laid back and in their own words "relaxed". There are a few heavy moments sprinkled throughout the disk which work well as the story progresses. As the anger builds so does the music. But even in these moments Cynthesis sounds like a different beast altogether. In other words this seems to be more than a side project and more like the group actually had another new band in mind. Quite possibly these guys have a good thing going and Cynthesis could have the lasting legacy that Zero Hour has if they keep this thing together. DeEvolution stands as a solid start for the Tipton brothers and Rosvold. Just don't go in expecting this to be another Zero Hour album. It's not but in no way is that a bad thing. In fact it's a refreshing change of pace for them and is a great prog rock album.
