Concert questions

With Axl Rose and his hired band finally doing shows again, I was inspired to come up with a few concert related questions so here they are.

1)Have you ever been to a concert where a band didn't show up?

2)Have you ever been to a show where a band came on way later than scheduled?

3)Have you ever seen a crowd cheer for a band that you thought were poor?

4)Have you ever seen a crowd not cheer for a band that you thought were good?

My answers:
1)Yes, Wrathchild America
2)Yes, Van Halen came on at least an hour after they were scheduled due to technical problems.
3)Jackyl, Death by radio and Life, sex and death. All were lame and all got cheered although Death by radio did get a few well deserved boos mixed in.
4)Helloween and Cry of love. Helloween were opening for Anthrax and their music is just different from Anthrax. Cry of love opened for Aerosmith and they were good, but most people just sat there staring.

fredcq-Your Godflesh story sounds like when I saw Helloween. They were great, but it seemed like only me, my friend and a couple people on he other side of the arean cared. Everyone else was looking at their watches waiting for Anthrax.
I love the Misfits and Samhain, but can't stand Danzig. Way too boring for me.

1) no
2) Not me but a friend of mine had to wait two hours for Guns and Roses. Rumour has it that this happened because Axl Rose was playing mini-golf with his bodyguard at dorms' hallway of his hotel.
3)no
4)Spitfire opened for Maiden once. Spitfire generally play good hard rock, which is different from Maiden's music. The singer started up with a "Do you want us to play or leave?" and received some boos in answer. I hear they opened for Dokken a few days ago and I do hope they had had a warmer welcome this time. Too bad Dokken aren't coming to the UK for their tour.

1)Nope, not me.

2)My problem is, I never know when they are scheduled. When I went to Motley Crue with Amulet and some other friends, it felt like FOREVER until they came on because there were a million different bands opening for them.

3)Blink 182. I saw them when they toured with No Doubt. Blink played all their songs 500 times faster than on the album...to the point that they weren't recognizable. I just stood there dumbfounded while all the kids in the mosh pit jumped around like crazy. No Doubt ROCKED though.

4)Nope. But I'm a loud cheer-er. I can't hear much over my own big mouth. ;-)

1)Never the headliner, but I went to a Bad Company concert back in '76 or '77, where the opening act never showed. To their credit, BC went out and played for 3 hours.

2)Only once. The Guess Who back in '75. Burton Cummings was the original Axl Rose, and to make it worse, they sucked.

3)See above.

4)Sammy Hagar opened for Boston once, and he put on a hell of a show IMO, but got very little reaction.

Some great stories. I should probably clarify my answer about Wrathchild America. They reportedly showed up at the venue, but the promoter did not have the money he promised so they walked without playing.

You go to enough shows and you will eventually have problems and a late show. I saw Warrent back in the late 80's or early '90's and they walked off after two songs. So you can imagine that I don't think much of their r&r attitude. I have seen some really good openers that have got poor receptions but some of the weirdest things that I see these days is inappropriate actions in the mosh pit. Who moshes to Evenescense? These people really need to get a clue.

DUDE! Finally a post I can comment on even though my answers are really boring (there's quite a few fuzzy concerts in my past)

1. No
2. Black Sabbath, but I don't remember why
3. Yes, but I don't remember who
4. Same as above

1) no
2) yes, Motley Crue but only by 35 minutes.
3) Ratt - I guess it was the sound guy's problem, maybe, but we could hardly even "name that tune"...still everyone was thrilled.
4) Queensryche opened for Ratt and nobody cared - I thought they were great.

1. Never had a no-show.
2. Guns N Roses, TWICE
3. Not that I can remember.
4. Alice In Chains, twice. Saw them open for Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeth and then a few months later for Van Halen. "Man In The Box" was still a fairly new video and they weren't big yet. Both times my brother and I were they only ones who seemed to be into them. At the Van Halen show, Layne Staley seemed particulary bitter. He kept cursing at the crowd, it was hysterical. At one point he introduced a song by saying "This one is for all you stupid New Jersey Trixter-loving mother f***ers."
