Judge the album cover
Here is one straight from the 1980's. It's the cover of Dio's 1985 release Sacred Heart. It's a bit of a departure as the previous two albums had featured a mascot called Murray, but he is absent from this one. So do you like it, don't like it or think it's just okay? Feel free to state the reason for your opinion.

I remember you and I having this discussion when it originally came out and if I remember right, you thought it was merely average. In comparison to the previous two and Dream Evil, it is. I don't think it's subpar in its own context; if you saw this ahead of the others, one might be inclined to say "awesome cover!"
Like the Firehouse cover, I think it's a fair representation of Dio's music. It's looks like an 80's era fantasy book cover. Interesting about the mascot. Never having been a big Dio fan, I didn't know he had a mascot. Asides from Eddie the Head and Vic Rattlehead, I wasn't aware of other metal mascots. Do you know of any others?
I like it,but I really like dragons and magic men...is kewl!
Ray-Actually I do like this cover a bit. I like the angles and the sky a lot. Wish the Dio logo were larger though.
John-Other mascots-
-Riot have a seal-headed type guy.
-Kreator have a demon guy.
-Running Wild have a pirate animal type creature that pops up from time to time.
-Sodom have a soldier in a gas mask that has popped up on many of their album covers over the last almost 20 years.
-Dangerous Toys had a crazed clown.
There are probably others that I am not thinking of.
etain-I like the dragon as well.
It's a little childish, even for Dio.
The dragon looks like it's out of a kid's book--RJD surely could have done a similar design but with a more sinister style for the dragon and the rest, more in line with The Last in Line.

I like it, It's like monty python meets tarot cards. Very mystical.
Can't stand the cover, I agree it looks like a childish set or tarot cards. As far as the album, I like it. It's not as good as the first two but it has its moments.
I love most of Dio's cover it's always covered with myth and fantasy. My kinda stuff.
I met RJD once, after a show down here at a small venue. He was actually a little taller than me! LOL! I will say, though, he was the NICEST, SWEETEST man. I even got a pic taken with him. I'm going to have to fish it out now...
PS. Liking the cover...
Quiet Riot! Right, forgot about the masked guy. (You think he looks like a seal?) Also, Motorhead's Snaggletooth guy.
Its pretty cool, kinda looks like a Tarot card
The cover works perfectly well - a very good representation of the music, and if the D&D-style symbolism puts you off, you probably wouldn't like the music either. Having said that, it isn't the strongest of Dio's covers, at that point.
