Rob Gee-Says......

Rob Gee has been playing hardcore techno music for quite some time. His latest effort "Says......" is strong with both raw hardcore riffs and big, heavy techno beats as well. The songs vary as to which style is used and of course a number of the songs are blends of both approaches. Since he has been doing this for years he really has the music down rather nicely as far nailing beats that are both direct and catchy. Some of the music gets a little repetitive and could used more repetition to pull the songs through. The biggest problem is here was just that the vocals ranged from weak and tedious down to just silly and awful. There's no doubt about Rob Gee's ability at arranging and producing, but his vocals just didn't manage to add anything and in fact they took away from several songs by just being distracting due to how bad they were. It actually two plays to really get past the vocals and find the many positives on this album. So Rob Gee ends up being the best and worst thing about this release just for different reasons. Still there's enough about the big driving tones and fairly genuine belief in the music that the album still has plenty to offer. The final track is a cover of AC/DC's Hells Bells and surprisingly it really could have been something if they just brought the big back beat up a little more. They brought their own sound along with an interpretation of the original, but it almost seems apologetic how they lower their ideas below the main riff. Not for everyone, but definitely some solid ideas here and there. There are also contributions on here from members of Slipknot, Biohazard and Bloodclot.
