What's coming up?
I was watching Fast Times at Ridgemont High the other day after not having seen it for years. It's still good although the two characters above are of course the highlight of the film. It's also a decent flick for hard rock/metal references. Van Halen, Zeppelin, Ozzy, Cheap Trick and Blue Oyster Cult all get mentioned plus you can spot Zeppelin and Van Halen shirts in a few scenes. Anyways this week I hope to have the following out
Reviews of...
The Underwater-Forces
Joetown-Pills and Ammo
Whitechapel-This is exile
Extreme-Saudades de rock
Netherbird-The Ghost Collector
and maybe one more
Interviews with...
Ann Bolyn
The Dead End Kidz
and possibly a Clash of the album covers.
Have a good Labor Day and a great week!

"If I'm here, and you're here . . . doesn't that make it our time?"
Truly a fine flick! Gotta' break it out and give it another spin real soon!

For years I only saw the badly cut version of this film on TV. It was like a different film when I finally got to see it intact.
You forgot to mention how Damone told Ratner to play side 2 of Led Zeppelin IV whenever possible on his date. In the car, he plays Physical Grafitti. I often wondered if that was a mistake or if it was intentional to subtly show that Ratner didn't know what he was doing. Since it's Cameron Crowe, I kinda think it was that latter and that's pretty brilliant.
I just found this on Wikipedia:
"Due to a licensing snafu, the producers were unable to gain clearances to use songs from Led Zeppelin IV."
So, I guess it wasn't by design, but still a pretty happy accident.
Bob-Cameron Crowe talks about this on the commentary on the DVD. They wanted something from four, but couldn't. However they were offered Kashmir and took it figuring it could show Ratner as bumbling. They reportedly only got Kashmir because Crowe had been such a supporter of theirs in Rolling Stone. Zeppelin do not loan out their tunes all that often and even more so back then.
Huh, looks like I need to pony up some duckets for the deluxe edition.
I always thought something was amiss during that scene, I just never put two and two together. Good sleuth work, gentlemen!
