From the home of the infamous mobster Al Capone comes everyone's favorite murder metal act Macabre. It's hard to believe that it's been eight years since the groups last release. A cult band in their home state the three piece Macabre are an odd sort of creature. Musically a mash up of death metal, thrash, and street metal the band is primarily known for their quirky use of nursery rhyme choruses! I don't know of any other metal band that uses sing-long choruses in their songs. And the songs themselves? Well, it's like a day care for the demonic with songs about serial killers and mass murderers. With tongue firmly rooted in cheek tracks like "The Big Bad Wolf", "The Bloody Benders" and "The Sweat Tender Metal Vendor" will probably not appeal to intellectual metal heads. You certainly get the feeling that Macabre could care less though if people take them seriously as they play with conviction and the sound is surprising tight (it helps that the band has managed to keep the same three members for their 25 years together). Not for everyone but it has a certain morbid appeal and sinister charm. With it's top notch production and charming album cover I think Macabre fan's will lap this up. As for your everyday death metal fan? Honestly who can tell. But if you like to walk on the wild side or have a fascination with things that go bump in the night than this could be the stuff your nightmares are made of.
