There's nothing I love more than a good doom rock/metal sampler. It's even better when it's essentially free! This particular (name your price) sampler comes courtesy of the good folks over at Twin Earth Records. It starts off with a righteously cool song by the female-fronted Kabbalah ("Phantasmal Planetoid") and then keeps on rolling until Black Betty brings things home with "Evil Once Again". Variety being the spice of life and all, Twin Earth Records Label Sampler covers a lot of ground (doom-wise) over the course of it's 13 tracks. Ultimately it left me wanting to find out more about this record label and all the bands involved with this wicked sampler!

From the looks of things it has been a longtime since I lasted posted some free metal. To make up for such a grave sin here is a hefty sampler from the good folks over at Relapse Records. Free Metal Monday: Happy Metal Annihilation Vol. 5

How's this for a Free Metal Monday offering? This fantastic sampler from Asher Media Relations (which was actually released back on December 11, 2015) features a grand total of 51 tracks! That's right friends. Asher Media Relations' holiday sampler "Happy Metal Annihilation Vol. 5" has fifty one songs on it making it nothing short of EPIC! I'm not sure how it is that I managed to miss it the first time around, but either way here it is and it is nothing short of AMAZING! Available as a free download, "Happy Metal Annihilation Vol. 5" starts off with Accursed Spawn's "Clotheshanger Abortion" and then works it's way through a impressive track list before ending with the XUL cut "Orbit of Nemesis". In-between these two numbers there is something for everyone as far as metal tastes go so if you are looking for a cool playlist to get you through the work week ahead then this is it my friends!

It's been awhile since I posted one of these (a Free Metal Monday offering) and for that I'd like to offer many apologies all around. There's no excuse for my slow job of posting these so I won't offer any. Instead I'll just get right to the point. For today's feature I have the "TMU 2016 Digital Music Sampler" from TMU Records and you can download it by clicking here. Truth be told it's a bit on the short side as there are only seven tracks, but you do get songs from the likes of Broken Teeth, Baron Steele, Wicked Angel, Final Vengeance, Sentinel, Medallion, and Wicked Step. That last act (Wicked Step who hailed from Texas and played bar room worthy hard rock/rock n' roll) is fairly unknown, but I hope to delve into their music now that I have discovered them thanks to this digital download! All of which goes a long ways toward explaining why I love samplers like this so much! You just never know what you are going to find!!

Today's Free Metal Monday moment comes courtesy of Germany's MetalMessage Promotion. Arguably one of the better metal promotions from not only Germany, but Europe in general, MetalMessage has helped out a lot of bands over the years including several that I've had the pleasure of reviewing and interviewing! Earlier this month the PR firm posted their sixth overall sampler and, needless to say, it's pretty solid! It features material from the likes of  Halo Creation, Running Death, Warfield, Toxic Waltz, and Vengeful Ghoul and it's free as can be! There's fifteen tracks in all on "VI" and you can find it by heading here.

You've got everything from Loudblast (death/thrash) to the Motörhead-infused Sticky Boys (their song "Bad Reputation" makes me want to hear more from this punk-like hard & heavy band!) and it's free to download by heading here.

In addition to one of my personal faves (My Silent Wake) there are tracks from the likes of Troglodyte Dawn, Henry The Horse, Joe Nash, Starchild, Crawl, D. T. Seizure, Void of Skull, and Ultimatum. All told there are twenty two tracks here and it's yours for the taking!

Free Metal Monday: Heaven and Hell Records-Over the Top

So far this summer has proven to be more of a distraction then expected. As such I have not been posting as often as usually. I'm hoping that this week might change all of that and to prove that my heart is still in the right place I present this free 21 Song Digital Sampler from the cool folks over at Heaven and Hell Records. One only needs to take a sneak peak at the artwork to get a lowdown on "Over the Top" and it's impressive collection of bands. This proved to be a break the speed limit while you're throwing some mad metal horns in the air kind of compilation and should do wonders for your post-4th of July weekend hangover! For those interested in punk rock in all of  it's various different forms (straight edge to pop punk to punk hardcore, etc.) Belgium punk label Boripunk Asso has recently released "Sampler #6" (the sixth, duh, sampler of punk bands from all of the world!). With 11 songs it's actually a fair bit shorter (in terms of contributions) then some of heir other samplers, but it is nonetheless a cool sampler and, you guessed it, it's free! Ultimatum / Join The Dead-Promotional Sampler

As Metal Mark said yesterday " The promo links are piling up.". With that being said (and with the express understanding that I am still only typing with one hand so any/all reviews from me will be short and sweet) I am also going to try to knock a few more out of the way over the next several days. This particular promo sampler features two solid Christian thrash outfits. Ultimatum are a band I'm rather familiar with. Lead by
Scott Waters (of No Life 'til Metal blog site fame) the band plays old-school thrash that is heavy and hard-hitting. I've always thought they sounded like a cross between Exodus and Metallica. In both cases I'm talking the earlier (and better) of both of those bands. All around good thrash that will make you want to turn your living room into a mosh pit. Excuse a bit of the old "cut and paste" here, but (per the promo):

Tracks 1 through 5 were taken from the brand new Ultimatum Album titled 'Heart of Metal - 20 Years of Ultimatum'

Said "exclusive bonus track" is a cover of the the Deliverance number " What A Joke?" and features Michael Phillips of Join the Dead and Scott Waters of Ultimatum. Is it any good? Well, it's a cover track so let's just leave it at that. Incidentally I actually caught Deliverance live when they played in the basement (yes, the basement!) of the local library "down the road". This was back when I was still in high school. They played with fellow Christian band Sacrament and made me realize that Christian thrash wasn't as bad as I had been lead to believe. Of course these days "White Metal" isn't as much of an issue anymore as the fine line between Christian and secular has been thoroughly blurred. It's easy enough to enjoy bands like this even if you are not a Christian as the music is, at it's core, just good old-fashioned thrash.
