Released on February 2nd, the four minute plus "Wrathful Eyes" is Emerald Rage's latest single and the third overall release for this young metal band since December 18th, 2017. The sword & sorcery-themed number is highly-enjoyable and it offers hope that we could be looking at Ohio's next big thing in the realm of epic metal! Angel Martyr-Black Tales- Prelude (EP)

Angel Martyr is a N.W.O.B.H.M./80's metal-inspired heavy/speed metal band from Piombino (Livorno), Tuscany that first contacted us on our Facebook page many moons ago. Having previously covered the band's self-titled EP this three-piece band was nice enough to shoot us a message about their three-track EP here. It can be found here (where you can download it for free folks!) and it features more of the same as far as cool as shit speed-tinged 80's metal/N.W.O.B.H.M. worship goes! Lead vox (of the wicked old-school variety*) come courtesy of nasty** guitarist Tiziano "Hammerhead" Sbaragli (Etrusgrave, ex-Harvest) while Dario "Destroyer Rostix" Rosteni and Francesco Taddei (ex-Etrusgrave) handle bass and drum duties respectively. All three musicians do their best to bring about maximum metal carnage and thanks to a sound and style that takes it cues from not only the likes of Iron Maiden, Angel Witch, Blitzkrieg and Judas Priest, but Omen, Exciter, ADX, and Exxplorer this up-and-coming trio almost always nails it! With the proper amount of support and a solid budget a band like Angel Martyr could really turn heads. Let's hope they get that chance. 

*The vox on this 3-track EP sound as if they were ripped straight from the early eighties, but then again s does much of the actual music! 

**Just so there are doubts as to what I'm getting at let's just call it like it is-Hammerhead shreds!!

This short piece is a holdover from yesterday's Free Metal Monday feature as well as a brief news piece about the band's upcoming schedule and their forthcoming album. For those who do not know the name, Ignitor is heavy/power metal band from Texas that is fronted by Jason McMaster (Dangerous Toys and Watchtower). This 2013 release finds the band covering songs from the likes of Anthrax, Venom, Judas Priest and Exciter and it can downloaded fro free by clicking on the link at the bottom of this article. It fit's in nicely with the group's last studio album, 2012's "Year Of The Metal Tiger", and features the following track listing:

Free Metal Monday: Divebomb Summer-2015 Sampler: Volume II

And this would be volume number two of Divebomb Record's summer samplers. This one features twenty tracks in all and it's a mixture of good (Picture, Chastain, Shotgun Messiah, Grinder, Reverend, Addictive, and Sultan) and so bad it's ugly (Slave Raider? Really?). Thankfully the good times outnumber the bad times (Slave Raider is TERRIBLE! Did I mention that already?) so I'm happy to recommend this one. Just do yourself a favor and skip that first track all together!

French Metal Friday: Hexenjäger-Demo

"We make noise". That's Hexenjäger's self-description. As for their personal interests? Well, they sure do sound similar to mine! We're talking about beer, rock n' roll, and whiskey for this four-piece band from Saint-Nazaire. In my mind all that's missing is women (and I guess we could replace whiskey with vodka!), but either way this French sludge/doom metal act hits you right where you're sitting! Sent our way courtesy of bass player Flo, Hexenjäger's 2-tracks debut demo is a walk on the wild side with the opening title track alone hitting the 20 minute mark! Hexenjäger, which is reportedly German for "witch hunter", lists it's influences as Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Pentagram, and Hawkwind, but truthfully not one of those bands is as slow and drawn-out as this French quartet is! As my fellow bandcamp devotee Paul Rote points out the clean voice of Charly sound similar to that of Wino even if Hexenjäger's personal take on doom is distinctly their own. Guitarist Charles and drummer Ben round this four-piece out while the eight minute plus "Murk" rounds out this demo. Of the two songs present here, "Murk" is my personal preference for best of show and that has everything to do with how it favors 1970 something or rather slow jam doom! Not that you'll go wrong with either cut friends! Especially if you live and die by the sword of S-L-O-W doom!!! Strange Fiction-Orange

Strange Fiction is a Barcelona-based rock band comprised of Carlos Palacio (vocals), Sergi Venteo (guitars), Marc Martínez (bass) and Joel Marco (drums). Preceded by the single "Tease Her", "Orange" is the band's soon to be released new album and this 11-track recording has a run-time of 42 minutes. The album, which will be released on June 1st so be sure to mark your calenders(!), was engineered and recorded in Spain by Tomàs Robisco and then mastered in London by Andy "Hippy" Baldwin of Metropolis Studios. From a production standpoint everything about "Orange" is spot on. There can be no real complaints in that department. For a self-release "Orange" sounds professional and the album's smooth finish is a real selling point. All of which brings us to Spanish rockers Strange Fiction. With a crazy list of influences that range from Led Zeppelin to Tracy Chapman, Strange Fiction defies easy classification and even if they have been compared to the likes of Incubus and Red Hot Chili Peppers this Spanish quartet more than lives up to it's appropriately-named moniker! The smoking hot lead single "Tease Her" opens "Orange" with swagger and it's raw sexual magnetism is only matched by the raw and crunchy guitar riffs of Sergi Venteo! The same winning combination comes into play later on with "The Glitch" and to a lesser extent with "Spell". But, we're getting ahead of ourselves so let's roll back the tape to the sweet sounds of "Tease Her". Early on in "Orange" Strange Fiction lead singer Carlos Palacio proves his worth as a rock and roll front-man with this single and it's plain to see how much the band leans of his voice. That's not to say Strange Fiction is a one-man gang or anything, but rather that his voice has far-reaching appeal. Whether it's hard funking rock ("All It Meant") or something that sounds destined for commercial pop radio success ("Another Chance") the band's lead singer makes easy work of the situation. That's what you want out of a good front-man and Carlos Palacio is a damn good front-man and then some! He proves it on "Tease Her" and every track that follows. And the number that follows "Tease Her" is "Jacko". Don't you dare turn that dial as you get to hear some fantastic Michael Jackson love in "Jacko"! From that song we move on to the Incubus-like "Not Good Enough". Incidentally you can find the melodic "Not Good Enough" and "Tease Her" on the group's bandcamp page. The comparisons that have been made to The Red Hot Chili Peppers seem to be justified given "All It Meant" and the fun mash-up of Incubus and The Red Hot Chili Peppers that takes place on "Fisherman's Truth" is more than a little enjoyable! Strange Fiction switches gears often on "Orange" and yet it all leads back to a familiar sound that can only be this four-piece band. Credit that to guitarist Sergi Venteo and the rhythm section of Marc Martínez & Joel Marco as these three musicians go out of their way in their pursuit of the perfect sound! Back to the music we go and that means it's time to talk about "Icarus' Last Night" and "Spell". Not only does Strange Fiction roll out the rock for these two numbers, but they do it one better by adding a sci feel to the mix! Meanwhile "Tic Toc On Powder" offers up the right mix of pop, indie rock and classic rock. And speaking of mixes, "Remember Me" combines rock-steady Pearl Jam with Tracy Chapman's sentimental approach to soft rock. There is no way in heaven or hell that such an odd combination should work. Or at least that is what I would have thought if someone had suggested it to me. Here's the thing. Not only does "Remember Me" work... it ROCKS! It's weird, but it's just one of those things you have to hear for yourself. And come June 1st you can do just that! "How?" you might ask. Well, by heading over to the band's official website. There you can pre-order a FREE digital copy of "Orange"! And why wouldn't you want to get a digital copy of "Orange" for yourself? Unless you are a diehard metal fan only there's little reason not to check out Strange Fiction's upcoming album. This Barcelona-based rock band mixes it up in such a way that you can't help but enjoy "Orange". Besides the band's already mentioned, "Orange" recalls everyone from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones to Jane's Addiction and even Bruno Mars! When was the last time you heard that said about any band?

I'd like to start off this short post by first apologizing to Angel Martyr for missing their April 11th post on Heavy Metal Time Machine's Facebook page. Next I'd like to apologize to all of our readers who have thus far missed out on the band's solid five track demo here. All of you deserved better treatment then that. For you see, Angel Martyr is the real deal! There's nothing fake or trivial about this band or their name-your-own-price demo here. These guys are the genuine article! Originally formed in 2006 as Wraith'sing, with hella cool guitarist/vocalist Tiziano "Hammerhead" Sbaragli (Etrusgrave, ex-Harvest) the sole original member left from that band's short existence, this N.W.O.B.H.M.-influenced heavy/speed metal three-piece from Italy thrashed their way back into existence in 2010 as Angel Martyr. Now rounded out by such equally skilled players as Dario "Destroyer Rostix" Rosteni (bass) and ex-Etrusgrave member Francesco Taddei (drums) this tried and true heavy metal band looks forward to the day when the world bows before the might of all that is Angel Martyr! Between the wicked singing and dangerous shredding off Tiziano "Hammerhead" Sbaragli and this band's boiling hot to the touch rhythm section that Earth-shaking event should be sooner than later! Especially seeing as how this trio's old-school approach to heavy/speed metal is not to be trifled with! In all seriousness though, "Angel Martyr" is a great first step for this Italian band and seeing as it is technically free you have very little to lose by checking it out over on the group's bandcamp page. If you live in this band's neck of the woods then by all means check them out live! It's usually all or nothing when these kinds of metal bands hit the stage and I'd bet my last dollar that Angel Martyr tears the roof down when they perform before a metal hungry crowd! Free Metal Monday: Olathia-Olathia Demo

This is the second of two Free Metal Monday offerings that I have posted today. That in and of itself is a rarity I realize, but it get's even crazier my friends. For you see this is also the second free digital download offering of the day to feature a band from my home state of Ohio!! Honestly I cannot for the life of me remember the last time that something like that has happened here at HMTM. That's if it has ever happened. I do have to wonder. But anyway, the first one was of course Ohio's Intervoid. But, while Intervoid specializes in technical/industrial death metal (all the while doing it quite well thank you very much!) this particular band rocks walks a different path. For Olathia, who incidentally hail from the Hometown of Rock and Roll (Cleveland baby! Oh yeah!!) and feature in their ranks the very lovely and very talented Chris E. (ex-Cellbound, ex-From The Ashes) on lead vocals, it's all about the metal! As in straight-up heavy metal with at least one song ("Open your Eyes (RadioEdit)") offering the five-piece band rock radio potential. And they make their debut on the scene with this hard-driving/hard hitting (name-your-own-price) three-track EP (https://olathia.bandcamp.com/album/olathia-demo). Cleverly-titled "Olathia Demo"(!) and opening with the absolute slammer "Hellhound" this EP can also be picked up on CD for a measly three dollars which is an absolute steal if you ask me! In addition to the great voice of Chris E. the band Olathia (https://www.facebook.com/olathiametal) is made up of top-tier musicians with ties to quite a few good Ohio bands. On guitars you have Jake Nicholson (ex-Black Valor, ex-Festinate) and Steve Albenze (Idleblack) while bassist Sully (Crown Royal) and drummer Jeff Morrow (Dose, Hemi Devils, Slave to Nothing) fill out the rhythm section. All four musicians bring skill and class to Olathia with both "Hellhound" and "Open Your Eyes" offering different and yet equaling satisfying sides to what is a very cool new band. As this is only the first studio release from this Cleveland band and it is this strong and good already one can't help but hope for much more material out of Olathia in the near future. For a band that seemingly appeared from out of nowhere Olathia provides further proof that Ohio is the place to be when it comes to new and exciting rock, hard rock and heavy metal bands and artists!

Free Metal Monday: Intervoid-Weaponized

 Digitally released this past December, with the nearly 60 minute long (!) album available for download at the link below as a name-your-own-price deal, this extreme piece of studio savageness has now been released as a must-buy CD! Featuring the current line-up of vocalist/lyricist Ricky Lewis, lead and rhythm guitarist Sam Vang, bassist Jacob Marxen and drummer Johnny Zazo this (inexplicably!!!) unsigned band has been in existence since 2012 with their pulverizing sound reaching new heights as far as madness and terror are concerned on the buzz-worthy "Weaponized"! A mind-blowing mash-up of technical/progressive death metal, groove-infused industrial metal and blackened death thrash this Ohio four-piece are every bit as good live as they are on this twisted beast of a recording! Now, back in August of 2013  I covered the band's excellent debut EP, "Xenolith", but (blame it on getting older or there just being too much metal in the world to sort through and not enough time!) somehow I missed out on the Oct. 2014 Halloween split EP that Intervoid did with Despondent and Cunt Cuntly entitled "Jesus Christ How Horrifying". That being the case and all it isn't too late to hear that particular release or the group's debut offering by simply following links on Intervoid's bandcamp page right here: https://intervoid.bandcamp.com/album/weaponized As a final note if you live in Ohio and you have the chance then I would HIGHLY recommend catching this band live! Loud, heavy and full-tilt extreme doesn't even begin to describe this underrated Ohio act on the live stage and for those labels/PR folks who are listening in Intervoid are yet another killer Buckeye band who are primed and ready for the big time! Our scene continues to grow and it never fails to amaze me how much Ohio has to offer the heavy metal scene at large when it comes to the high-quality end of the spectrum! Maybe that's an article in and of itself that is better suited to another day, but Intervoid and "Weaponized", their first full-length release and a great pick-up for lovers of all things technical death metal and industrial death metal, are just two things from this great state of mine that are in need of a wider audience so it has to start somewhere....

Wrong Era-The Wrong EP

"The Wrong EP" is the debut offering from Italy's freshly-assembled Wrong Era. Formed earlier this year out of the remains of Italian hard rock band Sutuana, with this recently released EP containing four new tracks in addition to two remakes of old Sutuana songs, Wrong Era is made up of bassist (and now lead vocalist!) Marco "Sappa" Nicoli (Sutuana, Instant Karma, ex-Midnite Sun, ex- The Unripes), guitarist/vocalist Lorenzo Zagni (Sutuana, Lola Stonecracker) and drummer Gianluca Montanari (Sutuana). Recorded and mixed at SappaLand RockLab by band member Marco "Sappa" Nicoli, "The Wrong EP" is being promoted by the fine folks over at Atomic Stuff in another win-win situation for artist and record label! This match made in hard rock/heavy metal heaven has only helped to establish the key factoid that this very slick, six track EP is available for free download and streaming directly from Wrong Era’s YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/wrongeraofficial. Though it was initially presented to me as "rock in Italian" there is
a lot more to be said of this talented trio than that simple description or the above black and white artwork might suggest! A crackling fusion of heavy rock, alternative, post-grunge and the 1970's hard and heavy sound-scape, "The Wrong EP" is clearly in the right with this Italian rock band energized and amplified
by the presence of electronic elements! As much as the "lyrics ooze of discomfort" the music at hand is often times just as unnerving (if not more so!) with distorted vocals and studio trickery paving the way for band's one and only track "Wrong Era" to all but frighten the listener on an emotion plain! To be fair that bit of heaviness is the more extreme side of Wrong Era, but it does exist and it carries it's own distinctive attitude thus giving this rock trio's first piece of studio recording a fine and frightful edge upon which to build a more solid (and hopefully long-term!) foundation. Overpower-Demo 2014

Melbourne, Australia's Overpower (not to be confused with the Croatian groove metal/thrash metal band of the same name or for that matter the Greek rock and rollers) is a four-piece band featuring members of Right Mind, XupercutX, Bloodwolves and Caged Grave (just to name a few) that appears to be relatively new to the scene. I use the word "appears" as a link to this four-track recording just randomly appeared in my inbox with no profile information whatsoever! That wasn't by way of the actual band mind you, but a long-lost (Internet) friend/thrash metal fanatic. These kind of things happen more often than I care to admit. But then again, isn't that what Google is for? Anyway, Overpower is fronted by a guy named McCracken and unless I am mistaken (in which case someone feel free to correct me!) this recently-released EP is the group's debut outing. Falling somewhere in-between pit-worthy crossover and raw thrash, "Demo 2014" finds McCracken and crew (guitarist Heath, bass player Dave and drummer/lead guitarist Bage) cracking out (pun intended) some sick metal and the best part is it's free! Yes, fee! This is a name-your-own-price digital download and while I could make some stupid joke about how it's well-worth the price tag and all the truth is it's much more substantial then that. There's a slick side to this Australia band making "Demo 2014" a nice addition to any metalhead's digital collection. Especially if said collection has a special section that has been set aside for savage and somewhat bleak heavy metal!

Metal News: England's Stiletto Farm release "January Sales" preview track "Adrenaline TV"

"Adrenaline TV" is the latest single from English rockers Stiletto Farm. Taken from the group's upcoming full-length debut album, "January Sales", "Adrenaline TV" might have a short run-time (1:25), but it packs a serious punch with it's fast & fun take on punk rockin' heavy metal! Now, I simply loved the group's 2013 single, "Bad Reception"/"Strawberry Sundae Red", (review below) as well as their 2012 debut offering "Decimation Baby" (no review, but damn it's a cool banger anyway!), but both of those singles sort of pale in comparison to this new cut! Offered free at the link below (as are the other singles incidentally), "Adrenaline TV" finds this über-talented trio speeding through a three-way stop where Black Flag, Green Day and The Ramones meet to hang out and swap tales of glory and yes, it is more than a little awesome! If their long-overdue full-length debut is anywhere near as good as this single suggests then we could be looking at a sure-fire hit for Stiletto Farm! Free Metal Monday: Seventrain-"Bittersweet Seduction" Single

Seventrain are a blues-infused classic hard rock band from San Diego, California. Among it's ranks the group features former Cage guitarist Eric Horton, 24-7 SPYZ drummer Joel Maitoza and bassist Steve (Dino) Andino (formerly with Tourniquet). Along with lead vocalist Jon Campos (who others before me have rightly pointed out brings to mind Ron Young of Little Caesar fame!) and guitarist Jef Poremba this California act performs a version of blues metal that comes across as being very late eighties/early nineties in style with a pinch of modern day appeal! The group, which should appeal to my generation (ie: anyone who came of age during the late eighties/early nineties, is offering a free mp3 download of their (solid) single "Bittersweet Seduction" from their self-titled debut. Free Metal Monday: Heaven and Hell Records-Over the Top

So far this summer has proven to be more of a distraction then expected. As such I have not been posting as often as usually. I'm hoping that this week might change all of that and to prove that my heart is still in the right place I present this free 21 Song Digital Sampler from the cool folks over at Heaven and Hell Records. One only needs to take a sneak peak at the artwork to get a lowdown on "Over the Top" and it's impressive collection of bands. This proved to be a break the speed limit while you're throwing some mad metal horns in the air kind of compilation and should do wonders for your post-4th of July weekend hangover! You will need to supply your e-mail to get a link sent to you for the download, but it's a small price to pay for such a hefty sampler!

Free Metal Monday: The Metal Madman Radio Show/Online Metal Promo-The Root of All Madness Compilation

Here's a nice new free 27 track compilation album to get you through this Metal Monday and the rest of the week. The Metal Madman Radio Show (USA) has teamed up with Online Metal Promo to release "The Root of All Madness", a free download compilation featuring a mix of "27 current, deep cuts and unreleased songs from up and coming as well as established hard rock and heavy metal artists from around the world"!
