Don't know the name? No worries my friends. Soon enough Portland, Oregon's Holy Grove will be on everyone's lips! And yes, it will be well-deserved chatter and then some! Formed via Craigslist in January of 2012, Holy Grove is a female-fronted doom metal act with the (Name Your Price) "Live at Jooniors" offering two samples of the group's live prowess. Recorded this past summer, "Live at Jooniors" features the tracks "Holy Grove" and "Nix" and with both numbers running past the six-minute mark there is more then enough material on hand to allow listeners to fall heavily in love with this four-piece act! Lead effortlessly by vocalist Andrea Vidal (with guitarist Trent Jacobs, bassist Gregg Emley and drummer Craig Bradford rounding out the fold), Holy Grove has become one of Portland fastest up-and-coming metal bands and after listening to this live EP it's no wonder why! By fusing vintage doom metal with classic rock riffs, 70's hard rock and the rhythmic aspects of blues-rock this four-piece brings down the house! With their honest and sincere approach to music and the way in which it all sounds so natural and free-form Oregon's Holy Grove easily captivates the audience and holds it's attention tight. Skilled beyond belief, guitarist Trent Jacobs and bassist Gregg Emley lay down thick cover (read: hearty riffs and fantastic fuzz!) over which Andrea can work her magic. Meanwhile drummer Craig Bradford keeps everything wrapped together nice and warm making Holy Grove's sound all the more alluring! With a full-length album supposedly due sometime before the end of 2014 Oregon's Holy Grove should be a household name soon enough!

Metal News: Dead Inside Records announces the signing of hard rock/groove metal band Muckagee!

In what will most certainly be a win-win situation for all parties involved, Dead End Records (a fantastic new independent label based in the San Francisco Bay Area that was built by musicians for musicians!) has 

announced the recent signing of San Jose, California's own Muckagee. With one full-length CD already to their name (2012's well-received "What you See") and a new EP entitled "Twisted Control" in the works, Muckagee (pronounced: "Muck-ah-jee") is all set to bring their grove-infused hard rock/alternative blues metal to the main stage for all to hear and (damn-straight!) enjoy! In the meantime the hard & heavy group has released the official video for their track "Over". Appearing on the group's 2012 debut-album, "What You See", "Over" is a groove-heavy pressure cooker where lead vocalist Mzao "Mo" Waters (a one-man wrecking machine with a powerful set of pipes!) and crew slowly turn up the heat before burning it all down! With Bob Lemos and Alvin Gatewood scorching the lines on guitars and the tight rhythm section Dave Wilson and Art Williams (bass and drums respectively) providing a blistering back end this California five-piece has all of the tools necessary to take that next big step!

Free Metal Monday: Seventrain-"Bittersweet Seduction" Single

Seventrain are a blues-infused classic hard rock band from San Diego, California. Among it's ranks the group features former Cage guitarist Eric Horton, 24-7 SPYZ drummer Joel Maitoza and bassist Steve (Dino) Andino (formerly with Tourniquet). Along with lead vocalist Jon Campos (who others before me have rightly pointed out brings to mind Ron Young of Little Caesar fame!) and guitarist Jef Poremba this California act performs a version of blues metal that comes across as being very late eighties/early nineties in style with a pinch of modern day appeal! The group, which should appeal to my generation (ie: anyone who came of age during the late eighties/early nineties, is offering a free mp3 download of their (solid) single "Bittersweet Seduction" from their self-titled debut.
