What's coming up and other

I still owe a 20 year old album review which will be Queensryche's Rage for order. I just need to find time to sit down and listen to it so I should have it out by tonight or tomorrow. Also coming up this week will be:

Dio-Holy Diver review
Black and Blue- Nasty Nasty review
Top vocalists list

Here's a question for you:

What is the most disappointing hard rock or metal album you have ever bought or someone bought for you?

I will say Motley Crue's "Girls, Girls, Girls". Theater of pain was just okay to me, but they claimed this album was going to be more like the first two and they even changed their image, but that didn't matter. The album is ultra repetitive and dull. It also hasn't gotten better over the years either.

So what's your choice?

Queensryche's "Rage" is 20 years old?

Iron Maiden/No Prayer For The Dying: This was a sign that all was not well in the Maiden camp. I guess they were trying to be more rock and edgy, there are only a few good tracks on this one. A very disappointing follow up to Seventh Son.

Celtic Frost/Cold Lake: No need to explain this one, so I will save kilobytes.

Raven: Every release after All For One

Ben- I though Lies was okay. The Spaghetti Incident was a real letdown to me as it's just okay cover songs. Even worse looking back as it's the last thing done by the real G-n-R.

Phoenix-It doesn't seem to me that 1986 wasn't that long ago, but it was.

Fred-Hooks in you and Bring your daughter to the slaughter had no business being on a Maiden album.
Cold Lake was just a shockingly bad move. Raven had the life sucked out of them when they signed to Atlantic.

Sgt. Fluffy- You are right on here. Their worst album far and away. They just seemed very tired on that album.

Twisted Sister's "Come Out And Play" was a huge letdown after the amazing "Stay Hungry." They never recovered from that horrendous cover of "Leader of the Pack."

I agree with Ben, Lies disappointed. Some good moments, but not in the same league as Appetite. Some others were:

Van Halen's 5150
Iron Maiden, No Prayer For the Dying (good one, Fred)
David Lee Roth's Skyscraper
Def Leppard's Adrenalize
Quiet Riot's Condition Critical
Blue Murder's Nothin' But Trouble
Judap Priest, Turbo
Whitesnake, Slip of the Tongue

Strutter-I once read an article that sai something like Twisted Sister tanked their career about five seconds into the video for Leader of the pack.

David-I agree with all of those that I have heard except Skyscraper. I love Skyscraper primarily because it has Steve Vai's mark all over it.

You know your metal history well! Atlantic cut the balls off of Raven. Do you remember when they were wearing those crazy football outfits? Talk about forcing a gimmick.

Fred- A while back I wrote a thing about metal fashion mistakes and Raven's jockstraps over their pants was certainly included.

David- I didn't realize Blue Murder did a second album. I really liked their debut though.

Other albums I would add to this list are:

Black Sabbath-Born Again
Lizzy Borden-Visual Lies
King Kobra-Thrill of a lifetime
Metallica-$5.98 ep
Anthrax-State of Euphoria
Overkill-Under the influence

Mark: I liked Steve Vai's work on Skyscraper, although I did feel he was held back a bit. But I didn't like the songs as much as Eat 'Em and Smile, and I thought the way they nearly mixed Sheehan's bass off the record was criminal.

I really liked Blue Murder's debut, but the second offering was not in the same league. You might remember only the single from it, "Itchicoo Park" (or something like that ... I haven't picked up the CD more than once or twice since buying it years ago).

V and D-I thought the same thing about Theater of pain, but Girls, girls, girls was far worse to me.
I liked Ram it down overall. I also liked Diver Down although it didn't need so many cover songs and instrumentals.
