Favorite Christmas special?

Since I will be spending almost the first two weeks of December doing my awards for 1986 I decided to toss out a Christmas topic now. If you were a kid in the 1970's then you lived for the Christmas specials that would come on once a year. Back then if you missed them then you had to wait another year to see them. Now they are on DVD and you can watch them at anytime. So which one of these is your favorite:

A Charlie Brown Christmas
How the Grinch stole Christmas
Rudolph the red nosed reindeer

**And if you have a favorite besides these then tell us what it is.

A Charlie Brown Christmas is the best. It was on last night, and when I walked into the break room at work last night to get a cup of coffee the room was packed. Emmit Otter's Jugband Chirstmas is another great one, but that was on HBO, so I don't know how many people got a chance to watch it.

I'd have to go with "The Year Without a Santa Claus". Simply because Heatmiser and Freezemiser are the greatest claymation characters ever created.

Frosty the Snowman was good too, but I always cried when Frosty got locked in the greenhouse and melted.

I have to agree with Nonny about The Year Without Santa Clause....

"I'm Mister Green Christmas, I'm Mister Sun
I'm Mister Heat Blister,
I'm Mister Hundred and One.
They call me Heat Miser, What ever I touch, Starts to melt in my clutch, I'm too much!"

My favorite is the Grinch. I like the Charlie Brown a lot, but I think their Halloween and Thanksgiving specials are both better. I prefer The year without a Santa Claus to Rudolph. Heatmiser and Snowmiser are great, but Jingle Bells and Jangle Bells bring the show down a little. It does have a better Santa then the one in Rudolph though. I do have to say that I like Snowmiser better than Heatmiser though because he did his song first.

I like all of them, but if I had to choose from your picks, I'd pick Rudolph. I also like The Little Drummer Boy and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

The grinch!

Boris Karloff's very last piece of work...

I hate the Jim "You know who's" version.

Nice blog!

I love the Grinch as well, but it's Charlie Brown for sure, though it doesn't seem the same without those York Peppermint Patty and Almond Joy commercials....

I really love those Rankin Bass projects too....all those cool seventies and late sixties Christmas gems we grew up on...I can't believe I actually miss the damn commercials.

Hmmm. I have to say "Rudolph" because it was always my favorite as a kid. I loved it so much and had to see it every year on TV. My brother Andy always loved Yukon Cornelius because of his line about the fog being as thick as "peanut butter" and "You eat what you like, and I'll eat what I like!" My brother always had peanut butter on his breath. It brings back many fun memories!

MG loves it too. She has just learned most of the words to the song "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer". I found her a Rudolph that sings the song and his nose lights up. We get to hear it over and over and over and over again! MB has the Bumble monster that sits and sways to music. It's so funny because MB sits and sways with it.

I love seeing all the Christmas special on DVD. The color and quality is just beautiful. But I kind of miss that anticipation and excitement of only getting to see it once a year. There was something magical about the Christmas specials.

Steve-I put the second half of my post in Grinchy green to try to influence people, but it didn't work on everyone.

Onmywatch-Little drummer boy and Santa Claus is coming to town are good too.

dirk star-Welcome. Karloff was great voicing the Grinch.

Ray-I don't remember any commercials. I am sure that when they went to commercials that I went running straight to the bathroom or the kitchen.

Christy-I don't like Yukon Cornelius because he reminds me of the good for nothing roommate I had in college. MG has been watching Charlie Brown all throughout the year, but she's just now getting into Rudolph. I think she liked the Grinch a little, but she loses interest after maybe ten minutes.

Oh, I have to ask this in case anyone knows because Christy and I could not figure it out. On the island of misfit toys on Rudolph, what is wrong with the doll? I know she doesn't have a nose, but it must be more than that and I don't think they say what's wrong with her.

Those are my faves in THAT order. All those clay-mation movies too. I loved those as a kid.

Thanks for visiting too...I love your site. I am a huge metal fan!! You'd never know it by looking at my blog though. I have however, taught my daughter the important basics like the "devil horns", banging her head and shouting "rock on sistah" when we listen to our music together...I think that's a good start. no? She'd much prefer Megadeth over Laurie Berkner.
