Clash of the album covers

I have been looking at a great deal of covers this week so I decided to do another one. So it's...

Budgie-Night Flight

vs.

Iron Maiden-Killers

***So which cover do you prefer?

I don't think the Budgie cover is great, but it is completely unfair to put anyone up against a Maiden cover.

Bob-Both covers were done the same year and by the same artist. I think that it's interesting about the Budgie cover to note the pyramid because Derek would use a similar, but far more elaborate one for Maiden's Powersalve three years later. Also notice the birdman's gun and stance, perhaps Mr. Riggs borrowed some from this when when he did the cover for Somewhere in time five years later.

Wow. That's interesting. I didn't know all of that. I still think it's tough to go against the Eddie theme (I guess even for Riggs himself).

Yeah, Eddie owns all. This cover is burned at the back of my brain since I was a schoolboy in 1982...

Cool didn't know Derek did the Budgie one, but my first thoughts were the same as Bob's.

Derek Riggs of course did covers for a number of other artists after he stopped his streak of doing all the Maiden covers in the early 1990's. However, I don't think he did a whole lot covers besides Maiden in the 1980's. This Budgie over came in 1981 so he had only done a few for Maiden at that point. So he wasn't yet so linked to just Maiden.

I like the Budgie cover--which makes two things I've disagreed with Bob on today, certainly a record for the two of us because we usually see eye to eye.

But I agree with him that it's unfair to put anything up against Eddie.
