NWOBHM WEDNESDAY: DEEP MACHINE-WHISPERS IN THE BLACK
High Roller Records
2013
Ladies and gentlemen might I direct your attention to the link below. Scroll on down. See it? OK then. Click on that link and the first thing that will pop up is a review of Deep Machine's self-titled EP. You'll find more information about this short-lived N.W.O.B.H.M act then I care to dive into as this particular moment in time. In short this is Deep Machine 30 something years later with a few more grey hairs and quite a few years behind them in that rear-view window. It's a cliche I know, but Deep Machine, like wine, have gotten better with age. Seriously. This 3-track MLP (vinyl EP) is what true heavy metal should sound like. There's the title cut, which was written by vocalist Lenny Baxter & guitarist/vocalist Bob Hooker in the spring of 2011, an updated version of "Iron Cross" and "Killer". Three distinct tracks of traditional heavy metal from a band that has never sounded better. This EP was released on CD back in 2012 (limited run of 200 copies) and will be released on the day after Valentine's Day on vinyl (also in limited edition). N.W.O.B.H.M. fanatics need this EP in one form or another. Deep Machine deserved a better fate then they were dealt. Hopefully the band will just do us all a favorite and step back into the studio for a FULL-LENGTH RELEASE already! While these short releases are cool and all I really want to see these guys show today's youngsters how its done with an actual LP (as in LONG-PLAYER!) of sick heavy metal! I know I'm not the only one out there that feels this way. Until then all I can say is drop what you're doing and go pick this up folks.
