UFO-Seven Deadly

Steamhammer/SPV
2012

Don't ask me what is behind that odd album art. Quite honestly it seems better suited to some sort of post-punk/new wave band than this UK act. Whatever the reason was they choose it and no matter how much it makes me want to sing Wall Of Voodoo's "Mexican Radio" the fact remains this is some killer stuff from these pre-NWOBHM legends. Very few have ever played melodic hard rock with such skill and grace like UFO and "Seven Deadly" is no exception. Original UFO members Phil Mogg (vocals) and Andy Parker (drums) do a great job of holding down the fort while Paul Raymond (guitar and keyboards-with the band since 1976) and Vinnie Moore (guitarist who is now four albums in) tear through things with classic rock on their mind. Lars Lehmann handles bass duties on this, the band's twentieth studio album and he is quite good in his own right. Musically the new disc pulls from the past while still sounding rather modern in tone. In other words this is a great album from a great band and is a must-have for UFO fanatics.

The colors and the placement of objects on the cover reminds me of Stev Vai's Passion and warfare.
